Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition launch date and pricing revealed

Um if the iOS and the PC versions are almost identical wtf does the PC version cost double?

Thats what its come down to? Bitching because the iPad version cost $10 and the PC version $20? Surely if the game is so great (which it is, its fucking Baldur's Gate after all) then a $20 price tag is a trivial point to complaint about.

It kinda pisses me off that we have to pay double what iOS people are paying, but then again, console gamers have been paying almost double what PC gamers pay for a few years now, so I guess it's kinda just the same thing in reverse?

Why does everything have to be labelled as bitching and whining? I never said anything about this affecting my desire to purchase the game only that the price difference for an identical product was mildly annoying. It's like when a $15 PSN game gets sold at $40 for the Vita even though the games are identical.

Not really double, in a lot of the times now it's maybe R100 more for the console version, PC games have gone up quite a lot.

Because if you dare hold a different view than some, you are then whining and bitching ....... smile and wave at the usual suspects ;)

OT - I'm really going to enjoy this remake, nostalgia ftw!

Because if you had actually paid attention you would have noticed this:

The OS X and iPad versions of the game is also set for a September launch, although the specific date remains up in the air; the OS X edition will go for $19.99, while the iPad version will be only $9.99. The iPad release, however, will not include Dorn Il-Khan or Neera, who will instead be available as separate, in-app purchases. An Android version is on the way as well, also priced at $9.99 and with the same character restrictions, although no release date has been set.

So that $9.99 buys you 2 characters (I am not sure if the characters are bound to any bonus quest content the article doesn't say). I am fairly certain that buying those 2 characters will cost iOS/Android users another $9.99 or maybe we will be lucky and get it for $4.99.

Besides that: different platforms == different distribution models. The PC version has to cover server and bandwidth costs, which the iOS and Android version don't (I don't know about the Mac version, if Mac has something like a iTunes store). The PC version, for one, will likely be moddable as well, which would make it worth a bit more to most people.

There is the Mac App store but I dont think this will be on it, it will be purely off Beamdog's website, with the exception of the iOS & Android versions which will appear the their respective app stores. Clearly doing so is easier than having it purchased directly from the develop web site which needs to fork out for the ecommerce back end (checkout, secure connection, paypal licence etc) and what ever other hoops they have to jump through to be compliant with international financial laws. They should have just stuck it on steam &/or origin &/or GOG. All the infrastructure is in place meaning all the devs need to do is make sure it passes the quality checks set by the specific digital distribution platform.

Any 'server and distribution' costs will be a drop in the ocean compared to the 30% cut taken by Apple on App store.

Anyway keen to actually see the game since the time frame feels a little too short for a proper overhaul. I could be wrong though but for $20 it needs to be quite a bit better than the original (+mods) especially if you already own BG1/2 complete.

Just preordered...will get Android version as well, so the gf can play multiplayer with me, while I'm on the PC :)

I'd love to see this feature in action: "Improved multiplayer support, with connectivity between all platforms"
