Didn't see a thread about this, some people were confused in the Bioshock 2 thread, so thought I'd make one to clear up any confusion.

Warner seems to be having multiple issues with updating the game, from retail activation to GFWL removal patches. Stay patient until they iron out the details.

Both games are 75% off, now is the best time to get them

  • GFWL removed from both versions
  • Securom removed from both versions
  • Achievements added to AA
  • Mac version added to AC
  • Retail versions should now activate on Steam (system not fully working yet, stay patient - coming soon tm)
  • If you owned the vanilla versions of AA or AC, the GOTY version will now be added to your account for free (may need to restart Steam)
  • Trading cards added to both games
  • Saves are not compatible (potential fix below - but requires a lot of effort; easier to just start a new game)

Important Batman Arkham Announcement

OCTOBER 17 - ERIK.MILLER

Dear Batman Arkham Fans - Microsoft has begun the process of closing down Windows Live services over the next year. To make sure there is no interrupted service, we will be moving the game to Steam for verification and update services for both the Base and GOTY versions of Batman Arkham Asylum and Batman Arkham City.

If you purchased either of the games on Steam all you have to do is let Steam download the latest patch and you will be fine.

If you purchased the games somewhere else you will need to enter the code in Steam. (You can find steps to do this on the bottom of this.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to continue playing from your current save. You will need to start a new game.

Going forward you do not have to worry about where you stored that disc. If you switch computers or go to a friend’s house you simply need to download Steam, log into your account, then go to the library and select to install your game.

The following link can be used to learn more about Steam and to download Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/about/

To enter your CD Key in Steam please do the following:

1. Click ADD A GAME....

2. Select Activate a Product on Steam..

3. Click Next.

4. Click I Agree.

5. Enter your CD Key and select next once the game finishes downloading you will be able to play the game.

Save Fix

This fix seems to work for Arkham City only, people have had problems with using it for Arkham Asylum

http://steamcommunity.com/app/200260...8810549705289/

[How to!] Use old GFWL savegame in Steamwork version
Backup C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\200260\remote
Your GFWL savegame have your GFWL username as prefix.
<GFWLusername>-save#.sgd
Delete all files EXCLUDING these files: (remember the folder backup)
profile.bin and <GFWLusername>-save#.sgd
Open with a HEX editor the savefile you want <GFWLusername>-save#.sgd
Lets say Sharkiller-save0.sgd
Image Search Type HEX: 00 00 00 03 00
Image Select all the text BEFORE the searched text
Image And delete.
Save and remove your gfwl usename from the file. "save0.sgd"
Open the game and you have your working savegame there.

Tips
Don't mix patched with unpatched savefiles or the game could crash.
I'm using Hex Workshop but here's a free one:

Another posible locations for the savegames
Arkham City
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\57400\remote
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\200260\remote
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\SaveData
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City GOTY\SaveData

Arkham Asylum
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\35010\remote
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\Batman Arkham Asylum\SaveData
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY\SaveData

Final location of patched savegames
Arkham City
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\200260\remote
Arkham Asylum
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\35140\remote

I can't wait to add my Arkham AA retail key to Steam. Free upgrade to the GOTY edition is a really nice thing to do. Props to Warner Bros for doing that. No more GFWL is a very good thing.

thanks for this info wow finnaly I can play the game without not being able to log into stupid GFWL do you think they will do this for dead rising since i have not been able to log into my account and you can't save if you don't and no I don't want a offline account.

yeah and maybe now it'll save my bloody game

Thanks for the info The_Imp, I was wondering about the Save games, seems like it would be better to just restart the games. I wonder if they will remove the old versions from my Steam library, it seems a bit silly to have the same game listed twice.

Capcom are still sitting on the fence with regards to updating their games. There's a good chance that most of their games will be updated soon though. They kind of have to. Take this with a pinch of salt:

There's a chance that they might remove the non-GOTY versions, but they'll probably keep them there for the people who, for some reason, want to play the older versions.

You can always just hide them from your Steam games list, that way you don't have to see them. I think it's something like [Right click] -> Set catagory -> Make a new one a dump them in there.

This thread is keeping all information regarding the removal of GFWL in various games up to date, check it out if you need more information.

Also if you contact steam support they can remove games you don't want anymore but it takes long to do this.

Steam support is absolutely terrible (at least all my past experience with them have been). I wouldn't even bother.

when they redid Company of Heroes they added a "New Steam Edition" of the game, but never removed the old Company of Heroes. they may still clean up your library, but i wont hold my breath...

Ok, since the save games are gone... I guess this would qualify as a good excuse to replay both of them :)... I'll just wait until Arkham Asylum can be activated on Steam... my key isn't working yet.

Yeah, recently I struggle to get into a game, end of the year, tired and gatvol as a honest judge. But I forced myself to get back into and it otherwise I might not play it again. Really like the game, luckily I remember most of it as I go along.

lol'd at myself during the first level or two. When I first started the game, I was a noob batman, afraid and struggling to get armed thugs, just cleared a floor of 3 armed thugs, silently incapacitated them all. All in a days work! I'd make an awesome batman....

I wish they can sort Batman AA out to activate on Steam now... Would like to replay this and Batman AA before Origins arrive. Batman AA is fine since I already have it on Steam and it has been patched out already.

If you guys still can't add your key to Steam, send Warner an email at [email protected] or [email protected]. The latter appears to have a faster response time. Include a picture of your DVD case, the code at the back of the manual, and if you can, a receipt of the purchase.

EDIT: Referring to Batman AA. AC keys should activate on Steam now.

It took them a while, but they replied and gave me a Steam key for my hassles.

Also, doesn't this forum have spoiler tags. I'm sure I used them in the past, but they don't seem to be working now.
