Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone is running bf3 on their 384 line and how it runs?

I ask because my friend wants to build a pc so he can join us online but I told him its no use having the pc for it if his 384 line cant handle it.

Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks,
St3baS

P.S Ive told him to upgrade... 384 is the dialup of the broadband world haha :-P

You could but its not Ideal , currently based on the game issues he would have a terrible experience
But after they are resolved it will be very playable , if your settings are not like set on Ultra so if he wants to be
competitive not ideal but will have some fun.

Also ask him to come join the forums , were always happy to help and offer advice
No need to be ashmed of asking questions ,remember we all were New at one time or the other.

I'm running it on 1mb line with 5 gig cap now. But I just hate running out of cap and needing to topup a few times a month. So I'm going to downgrade to the MWEB 384k uncapped. I have played games online on a 384k line before and it was good. around 45 ping on local servers.

Ive sent him the link to this thread, so we'll see if he joins!

The ping will be the same on all adsl lines whether it be 384K or 10Meg.. The things that determine the ping is the line TYPE ( ADSL in this case ) and the ISP... What I'm worried about is the amount of data transferred between server and client and if it will become congested on the 384K line.

I'm guessing that he will only be able to play on a 32 player server at most, but I'd just like someone to verify that.

I'm on a 1Mb/s line.
32 player maps - no lag
64 player maps - super lag :/ DICE needs to fix it, a lot of people are complaining about the lag, makes the game just... "not fun".

Duno about 384k if BFBC2 works then BF3 should be ok.

Regarding Inet and ISP, what would you guys recommend for a budget of R+-350 per month line rental included.
I had 384k uncapped which was unshaped with Wazzup ISP for R305pm, but now they don't do uncapped anymore and I'm on the 1mb line with 5GB cap for R325. Last month the 5GB lasted me fine but this month Outlook synced with Gmail and ate all my cap so I had to top up a few times.

I would really like to get uncapped again just not to worry about cap etc.
But 1mb uncapped is just so expensive. R588 with MWEB.

What would you guys recommend for a online gamer with lite downloading and browsing needs.

I've got a 384 line and the only time I experience lag was when all the other players was experiencing it as well.

If it's anything to go by, I played the beta with my 384k line and I had absolutely no issues. Just at the start of the match on Caspian Border but after min or 2 it was gone and it ran great, had no lag issues, just fps drop on 64 player map but that has nothing to do with my line.

So honestly I think your friend will be fine, I haven't played the final released game but it should be fine. People underestimate what the 384k can handle :D

Edit: My ISP is Mweb uncapped

I have my line with RSAWeb (1Mbit bundled with 1gig data) for R240pm, then I got a 1Mbit Openweb account for R229pm, but I think that was a special :\ I don't know what the usual price is.
RSAWeb have their 30% off line rental deal going, so thats R240pm, then all u need is data.
Afrihost have 1Mbit uncapped accounts for R297.
paying the extra R240 is worth it! 3x the speed for less than double the price.

Ya i have a 384 uncapped with mweb.
In the beta it was playable I played it on low with some lag now and then.
I still don't know if its my pc or my line speed, but I'm in need of an upgrade anyway so new PC here i come.
my pc is minimum specs.
i played it on a 1 meg during beta and it was pretty much the same, on the 32 player maps 64 is a no go way to bad lag.

I was actually going to start a topic on this, so basically it's alright on local 32 player servers?

hehe np.

@Gimaru, yes it's 100% on 32 player maps, you almost don't even notice it on 64 player aswell, but that was in beta, don't know how the 64 player maps hold up now, i've heard they can lag really badly but the 32 player should still be fine. One of my friends is playing with 384k currently and he has no issues.

Sweet guys!! Thanks for the feedback! I think you answered a lot of peoples minds whether 384 would be playable. I am busy saving up for my new pc at the moment so I wont be getting BF3 till I have saved up enough money... December Bonus FTW!!!

I use web africa- Moved my 1mb line to them + 10gb cap for R399 per month. Slightly more than R350 but at least its a 10gb cap.

WA released some stats on BF3 b/w. I don't remember the numbers, but the avg data throughput was more than a 384/512 line can do, so I'm not even gonna bother.

Playing on 32 player servers is fine. 64 players servers seem to lag for people with faster lines as well, so it can't be that.

IMO, if you're doing nothing else online while you play you should be fine.
