Battlefield 3 - Anyone playing on 384 ?

Iv always run my FPS off a 384 line and never had a problem with lag. Im with Mweb by the way

I've got a 384 line and the only time I experience lag was when all the other players was experiencing it as well.
I play on my 384 ADSL every night. I'm on Openweb's Uncapped Gold account (less contention, semi shaped). But Telkom is screwing around with our exchange, for a few days my upload was below 96kbps, had a lot of lag then.

WA released some stats on BF3 b/w. I don't remember the numbers, but the avg data throughput was more than a 384/512 line can do, so I'm not even gonna bother.

Just a heads up regarding bandwidth consumption per hour, mine is between 70Mb-80Mb and this is on 64 player servers. I also recall reading the Wage,iGame and Mweb stats report for the Beta, it was roughly 250Mb per hour. It has never gotten remotely near that amount for a hour let alone 2 hours in the retail game. What is every one's experience with the BW per hour for BF3 ?

I'm still stumped with the readings I get(70-80) since that is basically what I got in BFBC2 as well, how is that possible(64 player server vs 32 player server)

My PC shows 105Kbps while gaming... it does spike up sometimes but a 384 user will have a very short lag at this point.

Is that 100 Kbps on average??? Or is that what its peaking up to?? cause that could even rule out 1mg lines on BF3 servers...

Thats kilo bits per second, not Kilobytes per second.

This is true. I write B - bytes and b - bits.

Games arent too intense on throughtput but you are looking for good latency and both the larger lines and the 384 have the same latency (proviso is that running out of throughput messes up latency)

Weird. So someone somewhere is full of it.

I suspect the WA stats are wrong then. They also managed to confuse bits & bytes, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

What we do need to clear this up is usage stats from someone on a 4mb line since its possible that the game adapts to b/w available. If so then 384k users will be at a disadvantage.

No that sounds quite possible. Doubling players won't double data usage. Hit detection etc is done server side, so most of the traffic is you relay data about your actions. Other players movements aren't reported to your PC as frequently.

The problem in my house with a 384 is that the rest of my family is always on the internet while i'm trying to play. 100 kbps average is really good. I thought it would be more.

Yeah, that's why I wait until everyone is in bed before I play. Also, I switch of all the other computers that might want to do some Windows Updates at night.
