it actually looks really good, taking into account that fact that he trailers looked amazing, saw a few glitches here and there with some lag in some of the videos... but thats probably just me... I am however looking forwad to this title.
 
Looking good, that's for sure.

I'm not really sure it's safe to call something alpha with little less than 3 months to release day...
 
Release is 28 October, so it's just a little more than 3 months away ;)

Alpha typically means that they have completed all game features, and most of the art assets. Alpha also usually marks the first large scale testing of the game to try and iron out bugs. The game has probably been in an internal alpha state for a little while now, but this is now a limited public alpha testing phase, since you need more hands to help find bugs. This also probably means that the game is mostly stable now. Alpha roughly three months before code release is normal, but it is expected BF3 will be in beta soon.

At some point before beta there should also be a code freeze meaning nothing serious is added to the underlying code. In beta all assets should be finished and added to the game so that the focus can be on fixing bugs and balancing combat. 4 to 3 weeks before the game is due to hit shelves beta should be wrapped up and the final master code sent off to manufacturing.

28 October can't come soon enough!

Thanks James for explination, make more sense now, I wasn't too sure how alpha goes to beta, to production.
