Battlefield 3 open beta date announced

Please Saix, iGame and Web Africa host the client as soon as you can so that we that did not pre-order can download the game and be able to play on 29th September. I guess the client will be available on the 27th due to the beta for the pre-orders? Hopefully we can download the client then and play on the 29th September. ;)

it wont be a client exe, it will be exclusively downloaded through Origin meaning no one will host the files....Xero explained this in the BF3 beta thread, it must be DL through Origin though word is you can copy the files from a friends pc and place it in your Origin directory but the RSP's wont have an FTP for it im afraid....

I read the EULA on Origin. It sounds like you can't even host the exe for origin on a network :(

What I want to know is, what's the point? A beta is by definition a pre-release so that people can test the product and have any possible bugs/glitches/exploits fixed so that the final product can ship without hassle. But this ony being done a month before release, can they possibly fix any and all issues before shipment date?

I mean, to fix the game and then still basically burn, package, seal and ship to everywhere in the world would surely take more than a month?

I think the result would be either a Day 1 patch or very soon after release.

All customers that pre-ordered a Limited Edition of Medal of Honor will also receive early access to the beta starting on September 27, 2011.
Ooh nice, just in time for my birthday the 28th. I hope I'll have cap left :(

Oooop something to do till Rage comes out and then after that BF3 in da flesh.(well sorta)

Yep its a legit question Den

think of this as more of a beta/demo
DICE call it a beta because

1. Some ingame "features" have been "turned off" in the beta
2. It is not the final product, weapon skins etc may change, damage drop off etc. Those changes are not huge per say to the code

But as for when they will be printing to disk is another question....i cant give you an answer there because i'd be lying but i'll take a calculated guess and say atleast 12/11 Days before the release.

True, and eloquently put sir :)

lol you guys with all the speculation
This is a Beta, there will be a LOT of behind the scenes work being done, we are already seeing upwards of 200 Emails a day regarding BF3 and the RSP program

Issues identified during a Beta are handled in the standard Cascade Method of Development - Class A Bugs / Issues are resolved and either included in Shipping version or Released as a Day 1 Patch
Class B etc are handled by level of severity

At the moment it looks the client has to be downloaded through Origin. However WAGE is looking into possible avenues to allow people to allow to download the client locally

class B being required to be pushed into the code and build itself depending on the severity i presume, that obviously is the worst kind of bug that would require a new build and testing on top of that.

I hear there is a 2nd map for pc users that will be used purely for backend testing...

We will be doing multi build testing througout the Beta already if BC2's Beta was anything to go by :)
Like I said, a LOT of work going on behind the scenes
