Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Multiplayer

Got this yesterday and damm...it runs like shit on my PC, geez :(

Time for an upgrade already?!!!

Well that's no good. I've only got an Athlon X2 5200+, so basically it's looking even worse for me then. Can someone else shed some light on their dual-core performance with this game?

The only way i can keep it relatively smooth, between 45-55 fps is to put everything on low. Even then, most of the time it jerks like crazy :( If i put anything on medium or, god forbid, high it becomes a slide show. Especially on multiplayer. I've even forced it to DX9.

I've made sure my system is in tip-top shape. Latest drivers, windows updates, defrag the lot. So i can safely say it's not me, it's the game. I don't know how demanding Modern Warfare 2 is supposed to be, but i can run that with no problems, smooth as butter on highest settings.

I'd also like to know how other people are finding the performance on dual-cores? Is quad-core required for this game? I don't mean officially, but realistically.

I have an Athlon X2 6000+ with a GTX 275, and the CPU is definitely the bottleneck. I can only run it on low, and even then I get an average of 25-35 fps. I play on max resolution, however, because I get the same frame rate on 1280*800 as 1920*1080. Very strange ...

The recommended CPU is a quad-core, so it may be a necessity. If you really need more speed, then change the audio setting to "headset". Apparently the sound system takes a lot of CPU power.

Jeez guys. I have a 550 x2 BE and 4GB ddr2 with a 5770 and i can run it on default high but i turn down some of the AA and those stuff.

That's going to be a concern. I'm going to need at least 30fps for the game to at least be smooth so that I can actually aim properly in multiplayer :(. I guess I'll find out how bad it is at the end of the month, but what I'm not doing is upgrading for one game. *sigh*

Update: For those that were concerned about dual vs. quad-core CPU battle, here is a little more info...

The game appears to be using all four cores when available. Here we used a standard Core i7 920 processor running at 2.66GHz. Please note HyperThreading was disabled and a single Radeon HD 5850 graphics card was used. As you can see none of the cores are working very hard.

Here is the same Core i7 920 processor with two cores disabled as well as HyperThreading. As you can see neither core is maxed out, but the CPU utilization is much higher. So again, a decent dual core processor such as a Core 2 Duo E8xxx or Phenom II X2 should be enough to get the most out of your graphics card in this game. While it is quad-core optimized, the game is not demanding enough on the CPU to warrant it based on what I have seen so far.

So according to them, you don't need a quad-core, just a decent dual-core (which I don't have :().

Dude i wish i could tell you but Xfire doesnt work atm ingame with BC2. Ill get fraps later on today and ill post my fps with the settings in game as well.

Sigh, I don't have a decent dual-core either. I don't care much for the eye-candy, but I at least want a playable frame rate on my max res. I'm gonna try overclock slightly and see if it warrants any bonus to frame-rate...

Guys I just read on the SAIX forum that running FRAPS while playing the game on Win7 can cause your framerate to drop. So if you have been doing that, try the game with FRAPS off and report back.

Also here is a config utility to make changes to the settings easier.

Hmmm ... I have FRAPS and Windows 7. Maybe that's why my frame-rate is unreasonably low. Sadly I won't be able to know for sure, because with it off I can't see what the FPS is. Removing it might just have a placebo effect :>

There are more local servers now. iGame has 3 more and dunno if SGS's extra servers are live yet, so server spots should not be that big a problem anymore :)

I really hope they will release a patch that will up the performance because right now, quite franky, it sucks ass :( Very dissapointed.

When one logs into BFBC2 and go to your favourites. If you got more than 6 in there the rest are greyed out. Is there a simple fix for this yet to have all in favoutires list available and not some greyed out?
...and does any1 have all the new igame servers added to their favourites they can post here?

iGame Comanche (32 Player Rush No killcam) 41.213.87.22:19569

iGame Abrahams (16 Player Hardcore Conquest) 196.2.97.213:19567

iGame Challenger (16 Player Hardcore Rush) 196.2.97.217:19567

As for the grayed out fav seems dice knows about it and hopefully get it sorted out.

Although it's been rather difficult to get game-time, this game is turning out to be absolutely epic. The new free-patch at the end of this month adds/converts two more rush->conquest and conquest->rush maps and hopefully they will be fixing the Number of Favorites and Firends scroll bar overlap issue.

they recently (over the weekend I think) sent out the R6 server code, which I believe has created a few client-side issues, most of my clan mates had crash to desktops and freezes of some sort since the new server code.

I must admit, I havent turned fraps off @ all, but maybe i'll try it and see if theres a noticable difference.
