Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Multiplayer

The new DLC is not really anything new, iirc you will just unlock a map for rush that was previously only available for conquest and vice versa. So I imagine there wont be much to download but I have been wrong in the past LOL.

We have just distributed a new server version named R7 to the server hosts. Early signs from the hosts are good with 20% less load on the server CPU, improved hit detection, Veteran rank handling is fixed so you should get your M1 Garand back now plus some other fixes to better help the server hosting companies and better management of Punkbuster IDs."

All dedicated servers are currently patching to the new server build just released by DICE, R7, which has quite a few fixes:

# Several common crash fixes. Especially those which have monitoring scripts that rely on the Remote Admin interface should see stability improvements.
# PunkBuster can send commands to Remote Admin interface (so ‘pb_sv_task 0 -1 ’ works)
# Veteran-rank handling corrected (it was broken in R6 and possibly earlier)
# Switched back to Release version of the low-level networking library; less debug output but higher performance
# Increased the initial server reconnection interval to 30+rand(30) seconds
# PB GUID generation is now based on EA account IDs (it used to be based on persona names)
# Added new command line options which allow providers to easily maintain server GUID's

I missed this yesterday but they really are working on improvements.

Some news on random Grenades. Yes I know we all have done it don't lie :p

the downloader is a huge freaking pain. dropped 8 times yesterday sometimes close to the end....

this uncapped jobbie from mweb can't come soon enough. getting switched over end of April...

Djinn, what dual core do you have and at what clock speed. Unless its a really good one, I'm quite sure this is what is bottlenecking you. Its made more apparent by the fact that switching everything to as low as it can go doesn't improve your FPS at all, meaning your 4870 isn't the problem.

It's a Phenom II X2 545 @ 3.6Ghz, didn't think it would age this fast haha. The more i read about people having performance issues in BC2, the more it becomes apparent that a quad core is a necessity not a luxury for this game :(

my 8800 is hampering my quad... if only the tard at the PO didn't decide to do some affirmative shopping i'd be semi golden with 2 runnnin SLI

Thing is though, my friend has a Phenom X2 550 BE clocked at 3.1Ghz and in GTA IV he gets an average of 40-60 fps. IN GTA IV!! So I don't see how your processor can in any way be your bottleneck. Maybe BC2 doesn't play nice with an overclocked CPU?

Believe me it plays nicely with overclocked cpus...

And this game genuinely needs a quadcore, especially if you're running crossfire/sli. Thinking about it, this is actually one of the first games thats truly optimised for more than two cores.

Well I've got an average speed dual-core so it doesn't bode well for me. Guess I'll find out just how bad performance is at the end of the month.

Not neccaserily CPU. It could be a number of things or just one that is your bottleneck.

List your full system specs like PSU, MB, RAM, CPU, GPU, HDDs, ADSL line and ISP. If all those are working well together then might wanna look into your PC setup and game settings etc... Another thing to look at is your BIOs and ALL drivers if they are updated to current versions. Lots to check but well worth it.

Some things peeps don't look at is AUDIO setups and how much it can be burdens on CPUs while gaming. What they do there is get a 3rd party sound card to take some of the burden off the CPU. Besides the sounds then are awsome on these 3rd party cards like the creative range and aren't that expensive either.

ROFL they should make a sniper only map with only snipers, Just had an assault match and well 13/16 guys where snipers. I could not get any ammo since nobody was assault so played a life with just a pistol. Then I just went so they can kill me so I can get some ammo for my guns.

Haha, ye. Hardcore is the way to play if you don't wanna empty a clip to kill somebody. But, when I play hardcore it's twice as hard to knife somebody, which is one of my main quests when I play :>

Thanks for the advice :) My specs are in my sig and I'm on a 384K line with Afrihost. I thought it might be internet lag but the thing is that the same thing happens in single player. I've made sure I'm running all the latest updates, BIOS and drivers and all my other games work 100%.

I haven't thought about the audio though, would onboard realtek audio drain the CPU?

No problem. If it is onboard yes it defo will. All depends on each application on how much though. The new quad cores might get away with it but still one of the cores will have to handle the audio aspect of things. I strongly suggest to all gamers to look into 3rd party PCI sound cards like i've said it makes the sounds so much more realistic and at the same time lighten the load on CPU. Just a suggestion to a greater gaming experience...

Oh and if you go the 3rd party audio card route make sure to disable your onboard audio via bios when on restart menu.

And another suggestion is try everything graphics related settings on LOW and everything OFF where possible. See if that makes any difference. May old faithfull dual card XFX7950GX2 just recently retired and needed replacement. Funny anough i could slowly see it degrading to a point it wouldn't work on the same settings it use to on old games i had.

Can you please post some benchmarks of BC2, one with your on-board audio and one with the 3rd party PCI sound card. I know it's asking a lot, but what your saying is quite interesting... If there is a noticeable difference I would definitely buy a 3rd party one ...

At the moment i do not have time for benchmarking the 3rd party audio card i'm afraid :( The PC i'm using is my work PC as well unfortunatly. I did do a lot of research on it when i first heard about it while living in UK before i built my last rig. Jump on google and prol most high-end tech websites should have some sort of archive of the enhancements of 3rd party audio cards and gaming benefits...

Besides like i've said the sound difference with a 3rd party audio card is well worth the $.

Quite understandable. I looked for a benchmark online and came across this: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=174494

Onboard sound chips need to use CPU cycles to process sound. This robs your sytem of performance. If your sound chip has EAX which alot of them do these days the issue is compounded usually degrading your performance somewhere in the area of 5-15 FPS in games. This is usually the reported number of FPS that users report getting when then install a PCI sound solution.

I will definitely be investing into a sound card, maybe pretty soon. When I do I will post benchmarks on a new thread. Wait and see :>
