Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Multiplayer

The only way to download it is to download through the installer. There aren't any servers at all that host the patch, except for EA.

i play on 384 line, works great, also have the updater problem, but the game is just brilliant.
would really like to know how to fix the updater thing, googled it plenty but no answer yet

I've been playing a lot on the hardcore servers and it is like a whole new game to me, thoroughly enjoying the game now. I cant go back.

I'm not sure why so many people experience updater problems, I do agree that a seperate patch file would be so much easier but it seems as though more and more games are heading towards the auto updater route.

Why the hype?

Hi,
Coming from a COD4 and MW2 background, I was very intrigued by BC2 and specifically the large South African community following BF had overall. Only until I actually played. It feels like the game was rushed into stores.

Major issues
1. Server listings does not work properly (favorites, history, grayed servers etc)
2. Friends lists does not work properly
3. Spawn Camping (one sniper can spawn camp an entire squad easily)
4. Cannot connect to EA server error - popping up every now and then.
5. The team with the most high level char WILL win (equipment plays a such a major role)

Minor Gripes
1. short single player campaign (which most games appear to be sporting now)
2. LAN features (or lack thereof)
3. patch after patch after patch after ...

My questions: Why the huge following? What is the attraction of BC2 over MW1 or MW2?

Thanks

Soz for the long post, but ...

Major issues
1. Server listings does not work properly (favorites, history, grayed servers etc)
Not really a big deal. It hardly affects game-play, and finding another server is as easy as typing SGS or iGame into search.

2. Friends lists does not work properly
Very annoying, but many people play through Steam and so they can still contact friends and join games.

3. Spawn Camping (one sniper can spawn camp an entire squad easily)
Come on, you say you play CoD4 and MW2. You can't say that camping is new to you ...

4. Cannot connect to EA server error - popping up every now and then.
This has been fixed in the latest patch. I haven't gotten this error once since.

5. The team with the most high level char WILL win (equipment plays a such a major role)
Equipment plays a role, to a point. Having a medic without a defib makes a difference, but having a medic with a M249 and one with a M60 doesn't make much of a difference. Assault you only unlock new guns, and saying that one is better than another isn't true. The burst fire guns unlocked later on don't give much of an advantage over the AK. In a 16v16 game, class and rank doesn't really matter.

Minor Gripes
1. short single player campaign (which most games appear to be sporting now)
Again, you say you play CoD4 and MW2... maybe try playing it on veteran? Might double the length ...

2. LAN features (or lack thereof)
This is the ONE major issue that pisses me off. I went to OC and couldn't LAN this ...

3. patch after patch after patch after ...
It's been 3 patches so far. Not really much to rage about. I can handle it :p

My questions: Why the huge following? What is the attraction of BC2 over MW1 or MW2?
It's just a great game, in my opinion. I used to be addicted to CoD4, but I got over it because it was too single-minded ... I love BC2 because it just offers so much more in terms of gameplay. Who knows. Maybe I'll feel the same way about BC2 as I do about CoD4. But right now I love it :D

MW2 doesn't fail on PS3 luckly.
Is there anyway to play the game without updating? I wanna jam single player :p

You can still play it online with out even touching a patch. But be awair of all the problems when it came out check our other threat you will soon see what was/is the major problems then and some are even still now.

As for they other guy would someone give him a facepalm?

Hi,
Major issues
1. Server listings does not work properly (favorites, history, grayed servers etc)

I added the local servers to my favorites and use those. The full browser is slow, but the favorites list has never given me trouble. I'm sure this is what most people are doing.

2. Friends lists does not work properly

Haven't tried it, I use the Steam friends list, I'm sure this is what most people are doing.

3. Spawn Camping (one sniper can spawn camp an entire squad easily)

Choose a different spawn point or spawn on one of your squadmates. This is one of the strong points of BC2, it is practically impossible to get spawn camped unless your team is getting a most thorough steamrolling and your entire team is trapped at a single spawn point.

4. Cannot connect to EA server error - popping up every now and then.

Yes, I get this as well every other login attempt after starting the game.

5. The team with the most high level char WILL win (equipment plays a such a major role)

Nonesense. The team with the best co-ordination and better players always wins, it just so happens those are generally the highest level players.

See the red text!

As a "veteran" of the Battlefield franchise (BF1942, Vietnam, BF2, BF2142, BC) and having played COD2, MW, World AT War and MW2 I can say that the game has grown on me. Initially I wasn't too impressed with it but now I'm loving it.

The thing that's always set Battlefield games apart from COD is the size of the maps and the open type of game play. Most BF players have played COD as some point or other but generally come back to BF for the large scale warfare.

As for the unlocks giving higher ranked players an advantage, isn't that the point? It doesn't come close to the advantage that higher ranked players get in MW2.

Battlefield has always been a more social game in the sense that players will chat over VOIP and actually get to know each other. The truth can't really be said for COD. Having player many, many hours in both games I can't remember more than one occasion in over 5 years of BF that a guy just spammed the VOIP with inane crap. This has happened just about every time I've played MW2, resulting in me using the global mute function.

I think the main difference between the two is that BC2 is more teamwork orientated than MW2, since the game allows you to rearm, heal and revive team mates. Even the "spotting" function serves to promote teamwork.

Now I'm not saying one is better than the other, just trying to point out some differences.

As for the patches... well EA/DICE are famous for that. With regard to the EA > IW argument - rubbish!!! They're both greedy money grabbing fools in their own right.

I completely agree. In all the years I have played CoD4 I have never heard anybody start a social conversation with a friend or anything. This is one reason I love CSS and still play it: it is very social. I play it just to chat with my mates! You don't find that in CoD4 at all ... it's all about rushing and getting the top score. In BFBC2 there is much more teamplay, and the game relies on that! It just makes the game more enticing. The COD series is very single-minded.

From a real unbiased perspective:

BF Bad Company 2 has massive maps and vehicles. That pwns MW1 and MW2. End of Story.

lol this is true .....bc 2 just feels and sounds more like war where squads vs squads
while cod is like one on one were you are only out for your own benefit
......plus u get gold stars in bc2 wohoooo

One aspect that makes BC2 > CoD: You don't level up so damn quickly! I remember I went to a LAN with a level 1 cod4 account, when I left I was level 24! You actually have to play pretty hard to level up in BC2. In CoD you level up every damn game! It took me 3 weeks to get lvl 55. I like having to work to actually level up ... makes me want to play more.

The best thing about BC2 is that they don't have to remove weapons for competitive play. Oh. Wait. Scratch that...

As to the other points, gamers more eloquent than myself have given some exceptional reasons why this game is better than MW1/2.

This game is definetly better than CoD 6, the gameplay and style. I also love the fact that Bad company 2's multiplayer is not as crap as CoD 6
