Best alternatives to ADSL.

Lots of interesting alternatives listed here.

I would also add in my 2 cents -- iBurst. i was with them a year or 2 ago.

Indeed. I came to this thread to see what my options are after my 8ta 60gb+60gb expires as I'm not a fan of Telkom and will rather pay a bit extra than go the Telkom route.

Can you game with iBurst? Also, as far as I know their top speed is 2 Mbps?

I could never game with iBurst due to latency and signal dropping, but after getting a directional antenna installed this was solved.

I use the 1mb modem and get good latency and overall great gaming experience.

Gaming was not that bad, i had poor to average signal strength according to their coverage map but it was not that bad. luckily i stay on the 5th floor so i think that helped me.

I played a bit f COD WaW on my ps3 as well as some GTA4 multiplayer.

but all in all it was not bad.

Why won't you join us and use Telkom they aren't as evil as you think they are and way cheaper than a bit extra...

You can do 8.85 gb a day on their capped 4 meg option with 40 gb using their free time so thats 305.5 gb a month+-

You can always argue that supporting fixed-line broadband shows that there is a big demand for it and, perhaps at some point, government, DoC, ICASA, etc will rid ZA of Telkom's monopoly.

Sometimes you just don't have a choice: if you want reliability, stability and good performance, you may have to bite the bullet. Also, nothing says you can't simply just rent the line from Telkom and get data from another ISP.

Also, I see this thread is a few months old now... MOVING ON.

I might. I'll enjoy the freedom, I'll miss the speed ...
