Best budget graphics cards? (R1500 and under)

the GTS250 is a great card... I really disagree sorry. It's very cool, so much cooler than the 4850 (ran around 30c on stock). Also a LOT faster, I was surprised. I was getting 10fps faster on average than my 4850 cards.

yes but we are talking bang for buck here.
a GTS250 goes for R1900+- now? while a HD4850 is R1100

extra R800 is not worth the extra 10fps tbh

even then u pay R1500 for it?
price it @ R1100 like the HD4850, then i'll say rather choose the GTS250.

But until then, u have your opinion and I have mine :)

R1280 for the card I have. Palit GeForce GTS250 512MB

I do not know the ATI at all.. so not saying it was a bad card. :) just mentioning you can pick up a GTS250 for between R1 250 and R1 600 depending on who is making it.

I had a Palit FX5950 Ultra Edition card back in the day, they are a good make :D

don't get me wrong though, nVidia makes great cards. I had a 8800GT for a very long time till i switched over the ATI. My mind will always go with bang for buck quality :)

Call it bad luck, but 4/6 of my Nvidia cards gave me shyte, and 2 died on me
where is my trusty ATI served me for 4 years and a day of overclocking (RIP)

Now I'm speeding with a HD4650 512mb :D

are you sure you dont want to save up ? I have a ati radeon 4870x2 , thats 2 GPUs on the same card , its insane i know .. But well worth saving for.

I need to upgrade from my 8600GT, but not sure what my mobo/psu can handle. Might be worthwhile putting some Googling into effect

Same.

I've been an avid NVidia supporter, but I'm considering the ATi HD4850/4870/4890 models for my next buy. Ranging between R1200 / R1500 / R1900.

While on the subject, anybody have or know someone who has a Club 3D card?
Seen them around on lots of online shops, and their prices seem pretty good (the aforementioned 5770 for R1720) - they also have "green editions" of the 9800GT and GTS250 for between R1150 and R1400)

Definitely the 4870 when it comes to bang for buck. Although when I was checking benchmarks and reviews it was noted that the card runs hot which is never good for the lifespan of the card.

Im also looking for an upgrade. I was checking out Pc Format, while they often have ridiculous prices they also have some decent ones listed.

Saw:
I bought a 4850 recently for R1100 and have no complaints .
Hows that possible PCF only lists it for R1700 and this was the December issue:confused:
So what is going on with the prices, but I do agree that the 4870 is a bloody good deal. But still is R2000, mind you I bough a ATI Radeon HD4670 last year and that was R1800 from Incredible connection.

I saw the link that DiceAir posted on the 4870, that must be the older model. Also I see Jump is cheaper than the prices listed in PCF;)

Prophecy.co.za was selling the 4890 for R1999 or so last year. Including VAT + Shipping.

Good stuff. So what are you getting? Was thinking about the Asus GTX260 (nvidia) any good, would you still go for ATi, must say I am a fan of them aswell (ATI that is)
