Isn't that the "hoverboard" Amazon is telling it's customers to throw away?

Hmmm I'm a little sceptical about these things http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35109728

It is only because of faulty charging and plugs that caused some to catch fire/overheat. It's no different than the exploding cellphone/tablet saga. There's a ton of different brands , so i'm sure you are going to get some cheap crap...

So it's not like these things don't work:

So why wouldn't Amazon just not send their customers new plugs/chargers? Instead they are telling their customers to throw the hoverboards away and they will receive full refunds.

Because the hoverboards have failed UK safety standards with regards to battery/fuses/plugs and don't want to be held liable for any damage/injury?

Chief ombudsman Dean Dunham said retailers could be held liable for any injuries caused by unsafe goods.

"I think you've got to err on the side of caution and take it back. We don't know enough information about these to be able to go out to the public and say, 'If you spend a lot of money on one of these, it will be fine'."
