Best MMO to get into (buy to play)?

Hi guys,
I'm looking for an MMO to get into, something that I can buy once and play, no subscription. I bought Guild Wars 2 a while back and got the Maximum level but couldn't quite get into the story, it felt like I had missed to much, possibly with the live events and me starting so late and missing many of them.

What do you guys recommend for a good MMO with a lot to do and a good story? Also if there is something like WoW where there are factions and you can kill the other faction in the open world that would be cool.

Thanks

Was considering that, do you have any experience with it?

Just a bit - I bought a key for the game off Joker earlier this year. I was super stoked to play it and played through the intro and tutorial. I completed a mission or two back in one of the main regions and it was a lot of fun. Like I said, it had an immediate Elder Scrolls feel to it, but with lots of Guild Wars 2 gameplay mechanics mixed in for good measure.

I really want to make time to play it some more in the near future, especially considering the fact that I don't need a sub anymore. It is a highly polished MMO compared to the truckloads of Eastern crap out there. If you want Guild Wars 2 with some deep lore, full-on voice acting and a slightly more focused story, you'll absolutely love ESO.

Thanks, that sounds really good. Will definitely look more into it.

I've played Elder Scrolls quite a lot and whilst its fun... it gets quite super tedious quite quickly.

An MMO I am thoroughly enjoying at the mo is ArchAge. I downloaded it during beta on a whim and didn't honestly didn't expect myself to enjoy it, it's Korean and I've never played an Westernised Asian MMO before. But... its loads of fun. The way quests are fed to you is genius, you're constantly moving forward into new areas. The classes are also super, you can mix n match between 3 subs and also re-spec (for a price) to test other combinations.

Check it out, watch a few vids, read up on people's impressions. You may find its what you're looking for.

I played a load of Eldar scrolls and will be starting up again now that its F2P

I rate it as a great game if you are prepared to feel distracted, getting lost in a quest line and spending plenty time exploring area's were key factors for me. the PVP and the PvE content is both fun and challenging so overall its a good game

Honestly ur best bet atm is elderscrolls online. The game seems vastly different from what I use to play it a year ago. It seems they have ironed out a lot!

Been playing ESO since beta and it's a lot of fun. I got tired very quickly of GW2 and Archeage. Now that ESO is b2p it is even better. I don't see myself stop playing this game anytime soon.

I haven't played it but apparently Final Fantasy XIV online is fantastic, brendanvb can give you more info i think...

Unfortunately not [emoji14]. Haven't played it either. Not too into online multiplayer games/mmo's.

I'm enjoying SWTOR. Voice acting is not negotiable. And the story line is somewhat made by your choices. I love purposely choosing the wrong option and watching the NPC react. Fun game. The game budget does shine through.

I struggled to get into ESO and SWTOR. Guild Wars 2 is the one I keep coming back to at the end of the day. It's easy to take a break for a couple of weeks/months if necessary and jump right back into it.

I'll also recommend Elder Scrolls Online, plus it's releasing on console in a month, so there are even more options with that. I will be playing the Xbox One version and played the PC version for a few months after launch. What i liked most about ESO, the stories and the lore (i mean it is elder scrolls lore pretty much) . It did feel alot like a single player campaign though (kinda like Skyrim, except you sometimes ran into a cave and see 10 other players camping a boss). I also couldn't get into GW2's story, ESO story is much more interesting and "impactful".

The main problem with ESO, which is also what some may consider a strength, is their "phasing" approach to everything. The world/areas will actually change based on your decisions (very much like a single player game would), BUT this place you in a specific "phase" which only other players that made the exact same decisions will have access to. So it gets problematic if you group up with friends who are making different choices or playing different factions...in fact i don't even think you can group up between factions or even SEE the other faction players (since they will always be in different phases). Simply put, good part, you can save a village from zombies and it will physically become saved (i.e. friendly) , someone else can decide not to save it and it will remain hostile...you will then be a different phase as the other player.

The same unfortunate phasing occurs when you reach max level, veterans live in an entirely different phase as the lowbies, hence why you almost never see veterans appearing in your version of a zone. Each faction have their own landmass/campaign and ALSO live in their own phase, on veteran level you can play the other faction campaigns in a Diablo-style way (i.e. instead of playing another faction campaign with an alt from lvl 1, you can play the exact same campaign as veteran at lvl 50 with lvl 50 monsters).

All of this "phasing" is bypassed with the main pvp zone (which is gigantic). This zone is persistent and everyone in there is in the same phase. This is pretty much like a living/active version of GuildWars2 RvRvR Siege maps.
