considering how many hours per week i spend using my mouse at work, i think i need a better one. got some generic DELL mouse and it feels "inaccurate". I need something smoother. any advice on something good, but reasonably priced ? On a tight budget here

I (we) generally use the standard/generic Dell mouse(s).

Find that they last a long time for the money spent.
Alternatively, if you spend hours on it. Take a look at getting a trackball, they are extremely comfortable, smooth and accurate.

For my desk I prefer wired mice and keyboards, because I hate changing a bloody battery and ultimately that leads to flying mice or keyboards when I'm busy and they stop working. I prefer using a Microsoft Natural keyboard and I use a Microsoft Basic Optical mouse (Wired)

In my laptop bag I have a Microsoft Compact Optical mouse (wired) and a Dell Wireless Bluetooth mouse (for when I'm away from my desk and don't feel like plugging in a damn cable)

What's the budget? A trackball mouse is actually really nice to use at work if it'll be used for that only. Can't game on that, but it makes work practical and easy.

@OP, depends what do you mostly do on the work PC.
Do you require pixel perfect precision?

For general usage, the good 'ol MS mouse does the job well enough.
Bump up the cursor movement speed and voila! Silky smooth.

I use the following bundle for work lappy:

Works well, especially if you do presentations plus do not want to hunch over to use the laptop's keyboard+trackpad.

I agree, it really comes down to using the right tool for the right job.

In the office we also have a Wacom Intuos tablet we use for various things, I especially use it for when I want to make notes or draw during an online presentation or with an interactive whiteboard session. We also have a "presentation device" that we share for when we do presentations that require us to stand up in front of an audience

i think the problem may not be so much the "precision" thing, but just the write fatigue. I am therefore considering a trackball. budget was around 350-500 max, but the trackball i have my eye on if more expensive :( not sure if its worth it...

anybody here converted from Mouse to Trackball and your thoughts ?

Hey that looks cool, my last experience with a trackball was something similar to

Which was terrible and pretty much put me off balls

It's definitely worth it.

Back in college, we used trackballs religiously. It reduces your fatigue a great deal, and you'll see how accurate they are as well.

-edit-

Psycho, that design is truly awful :(

The new trackballs let you use your thumb to control. Much better.
If your issue is fatigue, I'd recommend any decent trackball, like the one you listed. It's definitely worth it.

You can also get an ambidextrous (wow, spelled it right first time) mouse and halfway throughout the day switch to your left hand. At first it feels unnatural and difficult but you get used to it and later it's second nature.

I had to do that when I had shoulder problems a year or two ago.

I use a Steelseries Sensei RAW (Guild Wars 2 Edition) as my work mouse. It's got a bright red cord and a pulsing red wheel. It get's the job done. :D

Hehehe How serious do you get at you office PC that you need a certain office mouse? O_o

i spend many hours a day slaving over a hot mouse! so may as well be a good one :-)

i bit the bullet and coughed up the cash for a trackball. but ordered from Amazon as it was cheaper, even with duties and shipping.
