Best place to buy 'OLD' games??

Where is the best place to get older games like Crysis, Orange Box, Doom 3?

Inspired by Azimuth's commitment against piracy I'm looking to systematically replace my *cough* copies with legit editions, as well as catch up on some over due gaming goodness.:o

When I look at my substantial collection of PS2 originals with pride I know I can revisit classics at any time :D , but on PC I've only got installed games from friends, without the media... So at present I can't format my PC or upgrade to Windows 7 cause I'll loose a dozen or so games...:(

Games I'm looking at:
*Crysis
Orange Box
*Doom 3
Quake 4 (with Quake 2)
*Far Cry
Battlefield 2 (for online)
Counter Strike: Source
Sin: Episodes

*Games I "have"

With Thanks

*Crysis
*Doom 3
Quake 4
*Far Cry
Battlefield 2 (for online)

You can get all those at take2 for R25-R140
Orange box also there or I think steam might be better.
Sin and counterstrike source also steam.

I just checked steam for some older games, Quake 3 and Wolfenstein - return to castle wolfensien - $19.99 - That is crazy expensive if you ask me.

Yup, Take2 has a massive amount of older games at great prices (Far Cry and Biosock for R80 if I remember correctly), plus they have even greater prices on some newer games.
Incredible connection also has EA re-releases such as Crysis Warhead for R149.99
(This obviously happened a day AFTER I went out and bought it for R350)

You can get about all of them at Steam if you are able to download them.

As others above have already suggested using Steam plus buying the "Exclusive" and "Classic" ranges from places like Take2, Kalahari.net, BT-Games even the likes of Game, CompuCity, Musica etc. You would be surprised the amount of places stocking these R59 - R120 odd titles.

I myself bought a few games on Steam recently.

Overlord Complete Pack (Includes Overloard 2) - $8.75
Mass Effect - $9.99 (Could've bought that from the shop in the above mentioned ranges)
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl - $5.00
Left 4 Dead - $14.99
Unreal Deal (All Unreal Tournament/Unreal Games) - $16.00
Prey - R89.00 (Loaded onto Steam as Retail Key)

When you catch the specials the prices are usually realy worth it. Crysis was half price over the past weekend I believe on steam, but I would rather get that from the shops once again... classic/exclusive series. Warhead I don't know about though.

You can get BF2 + the Special Forces expansion in a double disk special at CNA for R90. Totally worth it. Been jamming it online since '06 and it still rocks the socks!

Dice has released the final patch for the game, which made Euro Forces and Armored Fury available to everyone - so you no longer need to buy them separately.

Wow guys, thanks for all the responses.

Steam seems to be the destination of choice.
The Unreal Deal (All Unreal Tournament/Unreal Games) sounds awesome!!!
Steam also has a Jedi Knight compilation that I'm super interested in.

I still unsure of digital distribution though, so every time you format your PC you have to re-download your games. I really want Crysis on disk, I think it'll be fun to install it in 10 years time an laugh at the PC melting graphics... on my netbook or mobile phone!!! Haha

PS. I'm miffed at Kalahari, I wanted to by CoD4 mid October with eBucks, when the price was R183.00. I waited till pay day only to learn it's sold out (clever ploy gearing up for MW2). So I monitor them and Take2 daily (homepage tab) for stock, but when they get stock it's R273.00 WTF?!?!

Thanks again to all posters.

BT games got the COD4 GOTY still for R180

Yeah well for old games its a must.
Well I hear you can save your steam files and when you format just put the steam files back or something, have not done it myself yet but before I format I need to read up on it as well.

You can backup your steam games. The app has a buldin backup facility. You can them burn that to dvd or backup to another harddrive.

When formatting you can just copy the folders back in after installing the steam client and it will work fine.

Never had any issues with steam.

(So you could actually move your games between PC's as long as you have Steam client and the interweb? What would happen if steam shut down?)

Go Go local steam server!
