Best way to clean inside the box.

Hi all,
I noticed lastnight that my pc seemed to be running louder than normal, I had a look inside the box and it's a "little" dusty...

What is the best way to clean it out?
Should I get some air on a can? I have heard that you shouldn't blow on the components.

Any tips or links would be appreciated.

Game on.

Compressed air, either from a can or from a compressor
You can also use Cotton Buds with Surgical Spirits to clean contacts on your components

When I used to work for PC GUY in Obz, they used some kind of thing looking like a miniature leaf blower that blew out all the dust. We just had to hold the fans in place otherwise the force of the blower would mess up the fan bearings.

Maybe a Hair Dryer could work for you? :D <--- Not a good idea!

I think compressed air is the best way. I think not blowing on the components is probably more about not blowing on them with your mouth lest you spit on them and short them out, besides, you'll end up with a face full of dust

NO HAIRDRYER !
Ever, not ever, Hairdryers generate Heat, you do not want to heat your components when attempting to clean them

And yes I know it was a joke, but one never knows with some guys, they take the easiest route presented to them

I have used compressed air but I do keep my hand on the fans to stop them from damaging.

Haha true I think I should edit that post...

Compressed air is best.

Normally I just take mine outside, open it up and give it a good blow.

I also take my GFX card out and blow the dust outta the fan.

I regularly clean my system with compressed air. Remember to clean all your fans; especially the CPU fan with cotton buds. You will be surprised how much dust settles on the blades.

Where is the best place to get compressed air? Also anyone have recommendations for removing old thermal paste from CPUs?

You can get them at any hardware if I am not mistaken.

For thermal paste I just use a tissue and wipe it off. Then put a pea size blob of fresh paste and you done.

If you use a tissue just earth your case cause there might be static build up,

Vacuum cleaner. Not sure why everyone here wants to blast the dirt in the case into the room with compressed air.

Compressed air works well for keyboards though.

On a side note, compressed air usually causes condensation. So if you do go that route ffs just let it dry first before switching it on.

The issue with Vacuum cleaners set to blow is that unless the bag or drum attached to it is 100% new and unused you run the risk of dust particles creating static buildup (Almost like sandblasting something)
I assume you meant that using it to suck the dust up is viable, never tested it but in theory it should cause the same static buildup

When i run out of compressed air i just use a leaf blower for like 5 seconds. Yes a bit overkill but it does the job.

Caboose, you should get something that is evergreen, like a Fir tree, less leaves inside your case
