I was thinking of buying me a coy of win7 operating system. What version will be enough for gaming. I was thinking of getting the home premium but don't want to fork out the money if that's not going to be good enough.

I'm not going to run the Aero theme.

My system
Q9450 @ 3.2GHz
Geforce GTX280
5 HDD
4GB RAM
23" screen

thanks

Go Ultimate Brother. Ive got a RTM of Ultimate and it Kicks Ass.

both going to give you the same result, having ultimate is not going to like give you ZOMG 10% performance vs premium. get the one that you really need vs features given.

Think i would also get the Professional edition, there isnt much extra stuff i use thats included in ultimate.

For gaming home premium is more than enough. Unless you need the extra networking, backing up capabilities, bitlocker. You need 2 physical cpu's or more than 8 gigs of ram.

I am getting home premium x64.

The ultimate edition seems a bit of a waste, If the only thing you get extra is bitlocker and 35 extra languages, then I'll rather go for the Prof edition. Although many will purchase Ultimate just for bragging rights. Note* Not all, but many will.

some people are just too gullible to think that the ultimate is going to give them the ultimate gaming

exactly.

I am running Win 7 Ultimate and I can't say I really notice much difference between my Vista 64 bit and this. The Jury is still out.

I'm not going to upgrade yet. I'm quite happy with Vista and everything runs fine. If I were to upgrade I would go with Home Premium. The Ultimate Edition just adds some stuff that I don't need.

just go clean install, don't upgrade from vista.

I'll be going for Ultimate. If theres 1 thing I can't stand, its reduced functionality

Haha I'm the other way around again. I hate stuff that's just there wasting space. I want things to be um clean and neat and the less the better. :)

I go for best bang for buck and for me that is home premium. I will not need any of the extra features and by the time I need more than 8 gigs of ram a new windows version will have been released.
