Bethesda owns "scrolls" but Mojang can use it this time

This whole law suit was a farce. Now that a settlement has been reached, it makes no difference to the fact that it is still a joke.
Mojang can't call any of the sequels after that name. How the hell will that work?

I reckon a game should be called whatever the company wants it to be. So long as it is not obscene of course.

How can Bethesda trademark a single english word? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Looks like it can be done. There was some company, Edge Games, that sued a number of companies over the trademark of the word "Edge". Included was EA because of Mirror's Edge.

You can also search the USPTO for trademarks and there are a number of trademarks for a single work. I checked both Scrolls and Edge.
