BFG unveils monster gaming PC

A bit of both, I think.

I prefer to shop around for components and build my own machines.

Yes, the like of Alienware, BFG and VoodooPC put together some very desireable machines but they are also excessive in my opinion. As the articles says, how many of
can casually spend R30k on a gaming machine whose primary components will most likely have been superseded within 6 to 12 months?

No way. If I had $1,000,000, banked right now to blow, I still wouldn't even get the entry level. I have way more fun picking out my own parts, building it and configuring it myself, and lets not forget overclocking which can get great performance for good money.

And if I were given $8000 to come up with a computer, I'm sure I could build something even better than that. In fact, I don't think I could use $8000 to build a computer.

Then again, I can see some rich kids parents buying this for their beloved son or daughter.

Not everyone wants to build their own systems and maybe, to some, owning an Alienware / BFG / Dell brand name is akin to Levis / Gucci / Porsche?

R30 000 is a bit (a lot) of a waste for a PC you will needed to upgrade in 2-3 years to keep playing the best games at the highest settings. Though when I think about it, I knew someone who spent fifty grand on their monster computer.

I agree. I reckon with a bit of know how you could get very similar performance on sub R12K

Wow, uber l337 fail in my opinion.

However, the touch screen control panel is a rather nice touch.

The i7 is a very silly choice for anyone looking for value/performance

heh... last "monster" pc i bougt was around R22K; well at least in that day it was the best of the best and lasted for a few months. After that i decided not again; rather stick with midrange.

I bought my current system for R15k. All through suppliers and it's lasted me more than 2 years now.

I will admit tho, the "neatness" of these pre-built machines (cables routed and cable tied) is something I wouldn't mind having done for me.

Well im gonna start building a monster gaming rig
Purely doing it as a technical gaming marvel.
If anyone is interrested in buying such a rig please pm me.
I'll be uploading pics and specs as the build takes shape.
Be warned that the price for this rig is quite high and features only the latest and greatest hardware available. Price as it stands at the moment is around R30 000.
So get me a buyer and watch this monster take shape!!

As for the Bfg machine its really nice but $8000 is pure madness!!!!!!

My Previous pc also cost me well into the upper bracket of 20K to build.

But that was my own stupidity. I had to get the latest and greatest on launch pricing.

My AMD 4800 CPU (939) set me back R4500, 2 months later it was going for just over 2K
My 8800GTS 640 set me back 6400, a GTX was 7.xK, 2 months later more than 2K price drop on both of them. My Kingston HYPER-X Dimms (DDR1) set me back R3000 for 2 gigs :O :O

I learnt my lesson back then.........

Holy shit...That's insane!!!!
Well i'll let you in on a secret..the pc im gonna build is gonna feature a R5000 mobo and R7000 cpu and not to mention 6 gigs ram worth around R4000
But that's all im saying for now..lol!!

damn dude you installing that Asus Rampage? or a Skulltrail?

:O :O
WEll if it were skulltrail then I think you wouldn't buy just one CPU hehe.

YEah dude that was madness, within 4 months of completing the pc, and redoing the pricing, if I bought it 4 months later, puny little 4 months, I would have saved 8K on the build. not kidding man, 8 FRIKKEN Thousand.

You know, last night I mentioned how cool it would be seeing that take shape via pics/live ...... this morning reality hit and I realised that to witness that dream build of yours Joker would just be torture, lol :p

(because I can't have it, not because you're a dork btw :p)

/me waits.

FYI I built a Win98 Gaming rig with my 2 very first 3d cards. Voodoo2 8MB PCI SLI cards!

Virtual machine sucks, I had to have the real macoy.
WEnt overkill on the CPU and memory though, cause its all I could find
PIII 500, 512 SD Ram, 20GB HDD, 24x CD Rom, Win98 Se.

3DFX FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
