BioWare responds to Dragon Age 2 same-sex romance complaints

RPG's are about choices. The more choices the better. If in real life we have the choice to be straight or gay then it makes sense that in an RPG you have the same choice.

So yes, I'm with Bioware on this one.

could have had same sex relations already in Baldurs gate... well with a mod.

Totally with David here. Romances are always optional, you don't have to pursue them if you aren't comfortable with it.

Wow, absolutely loving this article and the slew of comments it received.

Sort of hoped some of them would've made it onto the forum. I could do with a good argument :)

I love the same tired old logic-rape. That Jesus is my Savior dude:
Look you guys, the Bible only cites homosexuality as being a sin for YOUR own safety. Think about it, if we started accepting homosexuality as being okay. Then how will we combat the scenario where the whole world is gay? And don't say that will never happen.

Anyways if the whole world turned gay then how would the human race survive? It can't. Jesus loves you all and it is because he loves us that he is trying to protect us from killing ourselves out. I mean as it is we have so many other issues threatening to wipe out our race. So getting rid of homosexuality would just be one less thing to worry about.

LOVE IT! I don't know if he was serious or just trolling but that's brilliant! Always astounds me that these types seem utterly oblivious to the fact that they've just announced to the world that if being gay wasn't "considered wrong" (in their worlds, at least) that they would be flaming queens. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

C'mon, bring some of this vitriol to this thread so that I can have some fun.

I cant agree with you more @Lycanthrope, this is incredibly amusing. I fear though that the Jesus is my Savior dude was actually speaking his mind, silly sod he is... Atleast this provides humor for the rest of us :)

I KNOOOOOOOOW. It's also such desperate fear-mongering, with absolutely no basis in reality whatsoever. It's like people who claim that without biblical prescriptions for morality, we'd all be raping and killing each other - one has to wonder what sort of person would say such a thing, and what secret desires they're suppressing. It's especially hypocritical considering that same person would likely claim that human beings are above such base animalistic urges because we're capable of rational thought.

It's sort of hilarious that there's this prevailing sentiment that atheists have no basis for basic morality, when from a simple evolutionary and humanist perspective, it makes sense to cooperate with one another in order to perpetuate our own species.

Similarly enough, I've always thought that those people claiming homosexuality is a choice might be covering up for the fact that they've chosen to been straight over their own natural inclinations. It's the only sensible reason for such an otherwise absurd claim.

biggest issue here? people interpreting things wrong.

throwing this out there now. i'm a christian, now that that is out of the way on to the post.

disclaimer: what you read here might differ from what you might think most christians would say

the way i see it, homosexual people are born this way, if God didn't inted things to be that way, then they would not exist.

the biggest issue is people are too set in their ways to change their accepted method of thinking and conceptions, hence the major prevelance of homophobic views.

on to the other part to adress the nutter on the front page. which ties into part one of the post.
so someone is same sex inclined, why the hell would they be born with the genetic wiring that damns them for all eternity?

makes no freaking sense to me. like i said if God did not intend something to be, it never would've been.

Thank you, and indeed it does :)

Methinks he who doth protest to much has something to hide ;)

Agreed :3

I'm starting to become insanely fond of you. I like the way you think--your last paragraph especially so--it make absolute sense. The one word that repeatedly comes to mind with those types is insecurity. I think that they have their own demons which they've never quite learnt to come to terms with.

Can't help noticing that you're fighting a bit of a war in the comments section with someone who obviously hasn't come to terms with the flaws of his beliefs being pointed out without the charming frills and lace façade.

Do carry on!

You wouldn't believe how often I hear and read that disclaimer from religious people with variations on the wording.

the way i see it, homosexual people are born this way, if God didn't inted things to be that way, then they would not exist.

Indeed and you see it correctly. I'm gay (if you were unaware of this detail) and I get a bit of a chuckle out of arguments like, "You're an abomination but being gay is just too darn good for you to accept Christ!" and "Gays are abominations and must be killed, so you'll die of aids!" Let's see, I've been gay for ... 24 years, I've been HIV free for... 24 years. I don't think there's much to base an argument on there, I'm afraid. Funnily enough, I think that the ratio of straight people dooming themselves because of sexual idiocy is significantly higher.

Regarding your argument though, it's incorrect. You could say that if God didn't intend for bestiality, paedophiles, foot-fetishists and rapists or whatever else you like to include in the list to exist, that they wouldn't exist either. Your line of argument is flawed because the reason for evil, perverts and whatever else is the Devil who works his way into the hearts of people like me. It's true, I read it in a book.

People neglect to consider that sexuality and preference is psychologically normal. Yes, you are born gay or you're born straight. Gays come from all walks of life, all types of backgrounds and it isn't sexual "deviance" anywhere near so much as it is a sexual identity. You cannot change who you are and the way you were made--we're slaves to our genes, our brains and *shrug* perhaps on some spiritual side (if you like to think that way) fate has conspired to allow two soul-mates to find each other and given us traits to look for (attraction) to help us find that person. I wouldn't know, all I know is who and what I am and that is how I live the one life I have because anything else would be flat-out lying to myself and screwing my life up.

the biggest issue is people are too set in their ways to change their accepted method of thinking and conceptions, hence the major prevelance of homophobic views.

Funnily enough, there aren't as many homophobes as you'd think. People generally are very accepting, sometimes surprised but I've never (since I left school) come across anyone who has demeaned me. I think it might be because people have this "image" in their heads of what a gay person is and when they come across one they take a moment to reaffirm what they think of when they think of a gay person. I will, however, admit that the horror images perceived of gay people is largely a conservative dilemma. For the most part, I don't mind people who insist to waddle through life with blinkers on until they step on my toes.

Also, I don't believe that everyone who says that they dislike gays actually do. I think they claim to because they feel it is expected of them by their parents or friends and it's only until they come across actual gay people who they get to know, that they realise, "Wow, they're actually just like me."

I've known a few straight guys who have randomly apologised to me for dissing gays in their younger years as though apologising to me is a way of "asking for forgiveness." I just shrug it off with a laugh and say that I did it too; now I'm a flaming queer. No harm, no foul and all that.

The devilddit.

But yes, "nutter" is an excellent description of the e-peen insecure git.

makes no freaking sense to me. like i said if God did not intend something to be, it never would've been.

Your perception of God is very liberal. I commend you for it but yes, you are in somewhat of a minority. The Bible is clear on what it considers homosexuality to be, and if you take the Bible as the true-to-life Word of God then you (and many others) have a problem.

All I know is that I am me, I will remain me and a God that created me only to damn me isn't a God I'd care to have any faith in because quite evidently, he had no faith in me.

Oh, and my favourite saying: I chose to be gay the day you chose to be straight.

hey, i'm just looking at it from a modern perspective, if i had a R1 for everytime someone tuned me "jy gaan hel toe gaan want jy speel computer games!" aswell i'd be filthy stinking rich.

bottom line? people fear that which they don't understand.

i'll admit i don't understand a lot of things, but i don't go all "GRAB YER TORCH AN PITCHFORKS!" at everything

And that is evidence of a rational and healthy mind. Well done :D

:) Indeed, one has to wonder at the minds of some people. Why are they so convinced we're permanently on the brink of recklessly abandoning all sense and reason? I'm often of the impression that some religious people behave themselves for terror of divine and eternal retribution, rather than a sensible humanist imperative. It's this weird notion, it seems to me, that asks, "Why would atheists donate to charity?" or any of those similarly absurd questions posed in debate.

Mmm, I'm quickly becoming bored with that guy, though. As long as he insists I can't think around my own opinions, there's really no space for a meaningful discussion. I suspect he's already made up his mind on the matter and won't be persuaded otherwise - IRONICALLY. It's a bit like arguing with a stroppy child, to be honest.

Heh, I'm reminded of one of my favourite expressions - I know less and less about more and more. It would serve humanity well to embrace such honesty.

I know what you mean. I've come to realise that for many Abrahamic religious types the word "atheist" is synonymous with "sadist." Regarding what you said in your previous post, I find it horribly sad that some people are only "good" because their religion tells them to be, or are only loyal to their wives/husbands because their religion tells them to be. I can't imagine living my life like that.

I think that they are genuinely unhappy people who have never come to terms with the fact that life doesn't work the way they've been led to believe and that hey, maybe people don't subscribe to your particular brand of lunacy because they've seen past it, maybe people are actually happy being who they are instead of who and what you want them to be.

I think he's looking for a platform to preach and let loose his sense of self-righteousness more than he is willing to reason, debate and discuss so yeah, not worth investing much time there, I think.

That's actually pretty good.

Strangely, it reminds me of Mark Twain's: "But who prays for Satan? Who in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most."

I think there is an insane amount of truth to that quote and that it betrays the mindset of most people, not just religious folk.
