Black Ops Dedicated Server dilemma

Got this:

"We are the only host for pre-order, we don't know what it'll be like when the game comes out.

Thank you,
Ryan Kreger aka "gs|Dagger"
GameServers.com"

Looks like people are making an issue out of nothing. South Africans are quite good at that :P

I was asked to comment by CrZ on this thread, so here it is.

First off , a big I TOLD YOU SO to Tinman and everyone else who argued with me stating that Activision was looking at implementing a Pay to Play system. This is what it looks like, most likely with a arrangement between Gameservers and Activision for Rentals.
Secondly, I find it truly ironic that everyone is complaining about the system that was proposed so far, any of you nubs recall moaning non stop about the MW2 P2P system, billions of spammage mails and millions of petitions later only to come back now to say that the IW System might be a better solution, lol, really.

Next up is the fact that petitions were proposed on this title as well, please, please learn from your mistakes, your opinions are outweighed by money, this, if it is a completely locked down system that forces rental only from a certain host will not be changed by opinion or sentiment.

Then, what's happening now.
I have initiated contact with Gameservers and will be discussing options, to possibly allow iGame to Rent servers and proxy them to South Africa .
As stated on the iGame Forums, I will be dealing with this matter personally and will update the community on that forum as I get feedback from Gameservers.
(Once again the process includes money and is not based on opinion or sentiment, so please, before flying off the handle about a specific topic guys, leave the professionals who deal with negotiations like these to speak to the relevant parties.)

To close off, the immediate response by a few of you stating that you support piracy on the title etc, really , really damages the case for everyone.
Instead of being able to point the guys from Gameservers.com to threads like these on local boards to show interest, we are once again forced to ignore the community input when opening negotiations, are you really not capable of seeing how damaging this is?
With posts and threads like these in general, that are pro piracy and do not speak of any kind of intelligent solution for any of the issues are you still wondering why the world is slowly turning its back on the PC as a viable platform, so thanks, no really thanks for making my job sooo much easier, now if you aren't entirely done acting like a retard yet, and need to throw your toys because I just made a comment regarding your seeming lack of general intelligence, feel free to mail me so that I can lay into you in private

Updates to follow

Wow. He must mean me. Oh well, I said what I said and since this is a public forum where we are ALLOWED to voice our opinion I'll stand by it. To think that my comment about piracy on this game will in any way "increase" the piracy on it is pretty daft as well. Even though I don't have a single pirated game in my entire (elaborately extensive) collection of games, I still find it ridiculous that pirates are enjoying IW's games more than paying customers are because they're not stuck with MORONIC multiplayer mechanics such as those implemented by MW2 - and probably the system that will be implemented for Black Ops as well.

If a game is announced with "dedicated server support" after half the gamers on this planet moaned about the previous one, it creates hope. What IW created was FALSE hope, and not only that, there's now a whole money making "kotick-schemed" plan behind all of this. I'm sorry, but we're gamers, hence, most of us are not stupid. Crazy, but not stupid.

I'm not here to make anyone's job easier. In fact, if my little comment about THE PIRACY THAT WILL HAPPEN ON THIS TITLE has in some way made your negotiations with some corrupt publisher more difficult, well, go cry me a river. Piracy on the PC will continue to grow as publishers make it HARDER for paying customers to get what they paid for. At the end of the day, they're doing it to themselves so they deserve what they're getting.

What you and the rest of the gamers on this forum can remember however is that there are other games available. Medal of Honor being one of them and let's not forget about Battlefield 3 as well. Those are games which have proper/normal dedicated server support without the need to suck money from gamers who already paid an arm and a leg for the game PLUS the overpriced internet access that we have here in South Africa. So if we don't get some overpriced server for South Africa for Black Ops, I really could not care less and your job can go on as usual.

At this stage we look like a bunch of crackhead junkies who are desperate for our next "fix" from Activision and we're practically begging them to give us a dedicated server. Yeah - "we'll pay you anything you want Bobby - please give us a server - we're desperate crack-monkeys who haven't realized that there are other games available to us. C'mon Bobby, PLEASE...we beg you! Give poor little us a server - we'll suck your...."

No. That's not my way of thinking. I think we should tell them to stick their servers where the sun doesn't shine and boycott them like a lot of people did on MW2 - myself included.

In short: I'm not saying you should think with your balls all the time, but you definitely should think about growing a pair.

+1 and ^5
Thats what we've all been thinking.

Yeah, there are other games coming out, there are also the games we allready have. CoD4 and 5 still hasn't gotten stale, not one bit, plus theres also the option of revisiting other older games that still have a community with them.

Probably one of the worst sentences I've read on internet forums. And then people wonder why some of our SA gaming communities are so elitist. Well done on telling the community "hey guys, f*ck all of you", it shows caliber.

And if you don't care, then stop posting your negative drivel. Because you have turned your back and CoD (and now the community that plays it), doesn't mean you can coax others to do the same.

@Xero, thanks for update bud, please keep those of us that would like to know whats going informed.

I understand publishers/developers are there too make money. Hell, we all want to make more money, but why at the expense of gamers. They make money from us purchasing the game to start with. Then they charge us more for DLC, which in the past was often free. Extra map packs etc. Or some were even designed by the gaming community themselves. But no, now we get charged for every damn thing. And now it seems the trend is moving to even have to pay to play online??? In that case, bite me. I'd rather play Freecell then. And that is why the guys are getting so upset Xerowing. Yeah, maybe stating that we will pirate it is immature, but you know what? So fracking what? Why should I pay somewhere between R300 and R500 for a single player game?

Somebody here argued that it is because of piracy that the PC community is getting less and less attention from publishers etc. Maybe, but then why is the Xbox version still so massive? That probably get pirated just as much, if not more than the PC version. If you go look at Battlefield Bad Company Stats you will see they list the number of Xbox, PC and PS3 players online. PC stands at 1 835 898, PS3 at 1 707 084 and the Xbox at 2 097 581. So PC is basically only 200 000 behind the Xbox, so do not tell me the PC market is small or losing players to console. Yes, obviously the console market together is bigger, but those are two separate platforms and can not be counted as the same thing. The only safe platform currently for developers and publishers is the PS3 and even that is in danger at the moment PS3 is cracked

Time will tell of course, but this whole saga leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth. It is poor form from Activision and simply show their greed. They have an extremely successful franchise which has made them billions of dollars, yet they now want to exploit that brand name and make even more. Guess what, it is only going to last for so long before the entire community shows them a toffee or even better, a new and better franchise comes along and destroys the CoD franchise. Medal of Honor?

At the end of the day this comes down to the developers not bothering to listen to the community anymore. They no longer care about us and are trying to milk as much cash out of us as they can and that might work for a while, but it is bound to bite them on the rear sooner or later when the entire community realises they are getting shafted. All we ask for is dedicated servers. Some so that our local game server providers (SGS, iGame and WAGE) can host online servers for us with no restrictions, no hassles and so that when I invite a couple mates around we can see who has the biggest PC, because he must host the local LAN server. Is that too much to ask? They can charge us for the DLC if it makes them feel better. Charge us for the patches if they must, but just give us damn dedicated servers PLEASE!

Talk about talking a lot without saying anything. I have full right to reply to someone who had something to say about my previous post. If you don't like people posting their opinions, GET THE STUFF OFF THE FORUM!

Secondly, I find it truly ironic that everyone is complaining about the system that was proposed so far, any of you nubs recall moaning non stop about the MW2 P2P system, billions of spammage mails and millions of petitions later only to come back now to say that the IW System might be a better solution, lol, really.

I don't think it is a better solution than anything. It must still be the kakkest online MP system ever, but it is still better than nothing unfortunately. Well maybe not. Maybe it is better to rather have nothing, than have another MW2 fuck-up.

PS An extremely mature response from a "professional" by the way. Would have expected a bit more.

Most of us seem to forget that P2P system of MW2 was/is flawed is due to our bandwidth constraints/issues. Not Activision or IW's fault....They just don't care about our teeny weeny market in SA.

Buy the games or don't. Easy as that.

Even without the Bandwidth issue dedicated servers are still beter because it allows for full controll of the what you want to play. If you don't like this server, go to another or start your own. With the P2P system, your at the mercy of people you don't want around. Just look all the hacker issues with MW2 with no admins around to kick and ban these people?

Also, with MW2 system, everyone playing nicely and then suddenly the host leaves midway through? WTF!!! Fine, theoretcially it will look for another host, but it often just fails. Has to be the dumbest system ever.

P2P FPS is horrible for any type of competative / league play. That and the fact that you don't have built in recording, means hackers ruin any chances at 100% fair games. Yes there are hackers in COD4 as well, but the cool thing is you are required to record all your clan matches, and if you cant present that recording upon request of the admins, your team forfeits the match.

Then there is the lag with our fantastic bandwidth........

I've said it 100 times over. The game itself ROCKS, the system, FAILS.

It's definitely gotten better, but I still have random days when it's Overgrown, Crash, Overgrown, Storm, Overgrown.
