Wow all of 6 people voted, they will definitely make a server now. Pointless poll is pointless.

Also the person who started it is clearly misinformed by a significant degree.

I was thinking because they recently created the AU server, and I rate the market for South African gamers are a lot bigger
AU has gamers in the millions, SA has gamers in the 10's to 100's of thousands. It's not even close, never mind "a lot bigger".

The reason for the poll in the first place was to find you how many wanted servers,, HOW was he supposed to know ONLY 6 people wanted servers.

Could work but its not like mygaming will try to strike a deal with the dev's for south african servers

If you've been around long enough you've seen a million of these polls and petitions and they never work. A company will decide from it's own market data if it's worth setting up a server in a region, no poll is going to sway them.

I'm not talking about convincing the DEVS they need a server in SA I want to convince the local iSP's that we want on surely if enough people are interested they will do something?

I don't think you understand how their server model works. Random people can't just host servers, it has to be connected to the master server that will handle authentication and purchases, etc. It's not just a case of grabbing an exe and running it on a server.

I don't know much about the game TBH, but I assume the developer/publisher (Zombie Studios/Perfect World Entertainment) uses Steam as its secure micro-transaction store front.

The developer/publisher will definitely want to be in charge of administrating the gaming server instances in whatever region, as they need to protect the integrity of their in-game systems, stats, account authentication, etc.

They might outsource the hosting element of a regional server to a hosting provider, and they will then remotely administer the system.

In this case, it isn't really an initiative that Web Africa or any local GSP can push, regardless of willingness. If the publisher wants to host a regional server in SA, then they can approach the GSPs as a client to get server infrastructure. If a GSP would like to chime in and correct my assumption, that's great.

The decision to do that will be a business equation. Not everyone participating in the F2P eco-system spends money. Assuming 5 US cent ARPU (average revenue per user), as recently put forward by EA COO Peter Moore, you can imagine how many SA users will be required to cover the cost of hosting a server in the region. I wont delve into the costs involved in the SA hosting landscape; we have a whole website dedicated to that sort of stuff.

Alternatively, perhaps a local GSP could approach Perfect World Entertainment and offer to provide them with hosting infrastructure for free. Then the GSP will have to look at that offer as a marketing expense. Whether or not the offer would be taken up is another story.

That's what I was thinking of...And thought a poll would serve as enough reason for them to approach them
