/facepalm , i'm sorry this dude is just plain ignorant. If you're going to talk about always-on like this, at least talk about he PROs of it.
"It's not so bad to unplug sometimes"? What? So he's already making freaking excuses for it, and the dumbest excuse of them all, geez. He is really saying always-on will force you to NOT play games sometimes, and that's a good thing? Maybe i should just unplug Gears of Wars from my future purchases.
Also, he's clearly one of those that think the USA is an island floating around the sun.
Anyway, i'm not against always-on when there's a benefit to it over offline, but all these guys are highlighting is the fact that it is impractical and that we should just #dealwithit. It's a very anti-customer and anti-gamer stance to have.

Doubt he really cares, the people that will be buying always on DRM games will be in countries where bandwidth and internet is cheap and fast.
My understanding is that always on is an attempt to cut down on piracy, correct me if I'm wrong. So perhaps the anger should be directed at the pirates. As with most things it's the few that spoil it for the many. If pirates are forced to pay their way it will benefit us all. More money for developers can only benefit gaming.
Problem is pirates always get around this. So who ends up with the better system? Legal Customer or Pirate? So it's always a catch 22.
If devs do it primarily for piracy reasons, this is when things fail. If they do it to provide a better service and a better interaction/experience between you , the game and the publisher then i'm sure players are more agreeable to it.
I play almost exclusively online games -anyway- (MMOs), this is per definition "always-on" . However it does not bother me, why? Because i know it's not about DRM, there's nothing a pirate gains from playing WoW offline. It would be a totally different game experience. Now with say Diablo 3, it's debatable , hence the backlash with always-on there.
So i have a problem if Microsoft is doing this, because now it is a platform DRM and whether the developer made a single player game with zero online features or a multiplayer game, i will be stuck with Microsoft forcing me online. There is almost no redeeming factor here, it's plain DRM in it's most annoying form.
The sad truth is, this implies developers don't need to spend on DRM, they also don't need to take any flak for it, because it's all the platform. So ironically this might make such a platform VERY attractive to the publishers. Microsoft can actually do this and throw this right in the face of Sony , we all know a console is 100% about the games. If the games are only coming out on 1 console because it ensures better sales, guess what, we'll all be applying the vaseline....

I don't mind everything being stored server-side for offline games if I were to live in EU or NA. Here, with our awesomazing pings to their servers , paired with super slow networks and unreliability , it's just not going to work.
Also pirates won't be able to get around this, since they will need to create a server emulator. Who here is willing to do it for free?
