Blizzard on Diablo III: "Lower your expectations"

First, why the fake fan made D3 graphic?

Second, wow did he just say D2 was the Sixth Sense and D3 was Signs? Maybe they should just cancel the game and start work on D4. :)

My expectations are already very low. They are so low in fact that I probably won't buy the game if I don't get a beta key so that I can check if it will actually be enjoyable playing a fast paced game online with high latency.

Well I am really anticipating the game but I know I won't be able to play it that much due to internet constraints.
But other games on the horizon are much more appealing so honestly my hype factor is dwindling for Diablo 3, probably at least till a week or so before release that is.

Because it represents lowered expectations :P

Wanna see the generic Diablo III box art?

Ja, what happened to Unbreakable?

EDIT: See what happens when I post before reading the article? I put my foot in my mouth, that's what. "whistling:

This is probably good advice for any game with a significant amount of Hype behind it. Nostalgia makes you blind, deaf and stupid. Its the reason Episode I - III of Star Wars sucked, its the reason the 4th Indiana Jones sucked. Its the reason we will never get the Transformer's movie we want and it's the reason that almost every rebooted gaming IP is almost unanimously regarded as "CRAP". No title, game or film, will ever live up to the memories/expectations our tiny little brains has conjured up from the dark corner that is our child hoods. If you are fall victim to the siren call of nostalgia or hype you WILL be disappointed and not because the game/film is necessarily bad (duke nukem is the exception DNF was shit) but simply because it doesn't reach the ungodly heights that your imagination built it up to.

Good thing I have very little nostalgia since I only played at most a couple of hours of Diablo II. So I have zero expectation for this game, but I do want to play it because I love coop RPG's and Blizzard has a good pedigree.

It's one thing when a game doesn't live up to unreasonable expectations (like childhood memories etc).

It's another thing entirely when a game doesn't live up to expectations because of decisions made by the developers (like removing single-player and LAN from D3).

Those movies weren't bad because of nostalgia they were just bad or at least mediocre. I watched the original Star Wars trilogy for the first time ever a few months before EP I was released so I had zero nostalgia there and the fourth Indiana Jones movie was just terrible beyond believe it's not even worth discussing. :)

Still your expectation. Its their IP they can do with it what they want. If they feel, after testing, case study, market research, meta-data from D2, that the game would be better without those features its their decision. Your expectation of the game to come out the way YOU expect it to come out means it will never make you happy. If you, like me doesn't care that those features have been omitted then, unless the game is a steaming pile of shit, it will be enjoyable.

Oh I agree as I huge Star Wars Fan the Ep I - III wasn't bad it was just mediocre. Similarly I enjoyed Indiana Jones 4 but its no where near Raiders or Temple.

I think you will enjoy this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vid...movies/5357-The-Phantom-Menace-13-Years-Later

I just couldn't stand the 30min CG jungle scene and the stupid aliens. :)

Lol! Yeah the Jungle and the Inter Dimensional Beings didn't kinda go wayyyyy out there. But it was stil enjoyable. Could have been worse, could have been Dark of the Mood bad.
