Blizzard releases detailed WoW quest stats

I wonder how many other stats they have that they aren't giving to the public.

ie This many people has been idling for this long.

All kinds of stuff like that. Stats are fun.

Dang that's a load of quests. And to think I completed 8,570,222,435 of them!

I'm pretty sure I know which one you didn't do...(and I don't blame you.)

He was also voted 24th in the top 47 evil villains of all games.

Thats a ridiculous amount. They must have a massive server farm to manage that much activity.

They do. I think each realm has something like 5 servers. One for each continent and one for instances (dungeons and raids). I'm not sure if battlegrounds has a shared server for the battlegroup or do they use an extra server for each realm in the bg.

Am I the only one thinking that the given number is rather low. At 10 million subscribers than averages around 850 per subscriber. My main char has already over 2000 completed quests and i have only played it for 6 months and skipped a lot of the quests and zones.

Not at all. Since this is the number of quests completed between June 07 and March 09, one has to keep in mind that a large number of people were at what was then maximum level at the time. Only new characters, players and extra levels added to the game will result in the majority of people questing, which is what is detailed here. If everyone started at level 1 in June 07, that number would be much, much larger.

Endev8003 makes an interesting point. When did TBC launch? Wasn't it around that time, June 07.
TBC released with 2700 quests.
WotLK released with 2350 quests.
Total = 5050 quests
That is much higher than that 850 average number (taking just the 2 expansions into account), which means either people haven't played very far into the expansions or they are just not doing the quests or the player numbers are down.

An average stat would be great to see.

Are there repeatable quests? This will also be a factor and can skew the stats.

Player numbers definitely aren't down since then. Their highest milestone was reached near the end of last year before WotLK was released (11.5 million players).

That still doesn't mean anything... What does player numbers mean? What is the measurement?

If anything we have seen what companies (including gaming companies) can (and will) do with their marketing and press releases to punt their product. A number is released, but in the meantime it is not known what the measurement or meaning of that actual number is. I argue that this such a typical example.

I quote:

World of Warcraft’s Subscriber Definition

World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees’ territories are defined along the same rules.
