Yeah, it's awesome in a way but there seems to be a lot more enemies around in an area than the souls games and if you're not careful and don't remember where they all are you can get overwhelmed in seconds. You will anyway, lol. Finally opened the shortcut to get to the boss area faster now, now to just try and beat him.

how do you get back to the central hub ?

Sound more like a Demon's Souls spiritual successor than Dark, or at least heavily influenced by Demon's.

You can travel from the lanterns. Just checked, there is no rest option or fast travel (for now). You can only travel to the hub and from there to any lantern, much like the nexus in Demon's Souls.

I think I made some decent progress tonight: killed the first boss, increased a couple of stats, opened up a few shortcuts, found my second weapon (along with some items I don't know the use of :p) and upgraded my main weapon and my gun. A good nights work all things considered. :D

I had to stop now, because I know if I keep exploring I won't sleep tonight and I have to work again tomorrow. At least it's just half-day so I can (hopefully) play the whole afternoon tomorrow.

Did you get the quest near the sewer section? Right where you open the shortcut?
It can be easily missed.

I don't think I did man. Which quest near which shortcut?

I did find and talk to another hunter who gave me some items, but no quest that I know of. The shortcuts I found is a gate from the sewer area that opens to that area with the 3 dogs right before you go on the bridge with the werewolves the first time and then I also found a lift close to that house on the way to the cleric beast (it's in the area with those 2 guys big guys with the big ass rocks for weapons) which also connects to the other side of the sewer area. I stopped exploring right after the sewer area where you get to another bridge with four guys waiting at the end. I did talk to a woman in a house that wants me to find her a safe place or something...

Kinda hard to explain. But it's the gate that is locked near where the big guy is banging on the door. It's right near the stairs where there are some dogs. There is a window where you can talk to a little girl who asks you to find her mother. Then gives you a small music box.

I'll post a screenshot if you have trouble finding it.
