To me you are the one being sexist. I have never once referred to your gender because it makes no difference to me, I would be having the same argument if it were Graal or Fenix taking your stance. Yet you keep referring to my gender and telling me that my opinion on the issue means nothing because I'm a man. Even your reference to mansplaining is sexist.
No, I'm saying that your opinion about women is always going to be from the perspective of a man. It's not that it means nothing, but that it's necessarily limited, and that it's something you should be very aware of when dismissing allegations of sexism. You're not the target, after all.
To call out something as mansplaining, however, is not sexist. Mansplaining is something you'll see EVERY SINGLE TIME a subject like this comes up, and it definitely applies to some of your own comments. Be offended if you want, but I'd suggest rather doing some reading on the subject instead.
The same thing applies if, as a white person, I talk about racism. It's immensely difficult to do so meaningfully, because my own perspective is similarly limited.
I am not having a discussion with 'women', my discussion is with you and the people in this thread. I am not the spokesperson for the male gender and you are not the spokesperson for the female gender.
But I am a woman, and in the context of entrenched sexism against women - in an industry currently subject to debate and serious criticism on the matter - perhaps it's worth considering that what I have to say about it is important.
I am not telling women how to feel about a topic, I am saying that in my opinion the issues you have brought up in this article are petty and belittling to the plight of women.
If you think 'girlfriend mode' is on the same level as female genital mutilation, spousal abuse, sexual health issues or job equality then I guess I should just quit trying to apply logic, because you know I'm a man and can't possibly understand these things.
Except I'm not comparing this to those things you mentioned. Also, just because sexism in the gaming industry isn't as serious as female genital mutilation does not mean that sexism in the gaming industry gets a free pass. I'm not in a position to do much to help little girls in North Africa, but I can stand up and say something about sexism in the industry I'm working in.
