Borderlands 3 Announcement Teased

Gearbox is going to have something to say about the next full title in the Borderlands franchise at their Borderlands panel this Sunday at PAX South.

This comes straight from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who teased the announcement when answering a fan's question during Gearbox's Q&A panel earlier today. No details were given, and he didn't even confirm the game as being called "Borderlands 3," so we still don't know where or when in the Borderlands timeline it takes place, but perhaps we'll get some more clues this weekend.

The panel at which the announcement will take place will happen at 5:00pm Central Time. We'll be there filming it, so check back at IGN's PAX South round-up article to get the skinny.

First the Handsome Collection for PS4/Xbone and now a possible Borderlands 3 reveal? I can't wait to see what they have to say tomorrow. I am a HUGE Borderlands fan so a proper sequel helmed by the original Gearbox team is something that will make me extremely happy.

I think they're milking the franchise too much now...
I don't see how they are milking it. The last main game was in 2012. Pre-sequel was done by a diffierent team (and it's more a massive standalone DLC for BL2) so it does not count. Also, more Borderlands is never a bad thing.

Borderlands 2 wasn't THAT much of an improvement over the first, imho. They really need to do something special to get my attention for number 3...

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. To each their own and such. BL2 was a major improvement over the first game in almost every possible way IMO. So much so that BL1 can almost be seen as the alpha version of BL2. If you didn't like BL2, then you didn't like it and that's fine, but millions of people (myself included) loved it and cannot wait for this announcement.

Have to agree with you on that one, Borderlands 2 had some of the best comedic dialogue ever.

Definitely. It is also the most fun I have ever had with a game and I have played quite a lot of different games in my time. It's not the best game ever, but definitely the most fun IMO, which is why I am super excited about this announcement of a potential (proper) sequel.

I'm a huge fan of the franchise also. Would love to see what's in store for the next title.

So, they are not currently working on a Borderlands 3 but Gearbox is ready to start working on the next Borderlands game and they are recruiting people for the BL team to help with said game. It's better than nothing. At least we now know there is a new game coming at some point.

During the official Borderlands panel at PAX South, Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford confirmed the company was "ready to start" production on a new game in the franchise, later taking to Twitter with an open call to developers looking for work.

According to firsthand reports from the panel, Gearbox hasn't officially started work on the next Borderlands. There are currently no hints as to what exactly the next Borderlands would look like, but if you combine the ending of Borderlands 2 with Gearbox filing a trademark for 'Borderworlds' in 2009, a larger-scale game with multiple planets seems likely.

Gearbox is currently looking for "artists, designers, coders, producers and other developers," according to a tweet from Pitchford, so no matter what your particular skill may be, Gearbox has a home for you. They're also taking applications from established developers, promising "confidentiality" should you wish to remain anonymous.

The big eye opener for me was when I went back to borderlands 1 after playing the bl2 campaign. It just doesn't hold up when compared to the sequel. So if you truly believe there wasn't that much improvement over it, I'd suggest you go play the first one again and see for yourself :)

I wouldn't mind a borderlands 3 just hope there is a new better villain this time :D

Handsome Jack was/is an awesome villain. His sarcasm and condescending demeanor built his character and made him that much more of an asshole. :D

+1

I do like the improvements of the first that the second had. Felt a lot more fun, and I only played BL2 in single player.

I'll see if I can do that at some point, but I remember having more fun in the first one. The driving/looting/shooting became a bit stale after a while in 2, but I pushed through to finish it. I tried finishing the DLC, but was incredibly bored by then. In contrast, I finished all the DLC, except Moxxxi's Thunderdome, in the first game.

It really didn't feel like much of a sequel, but rather an expansion with some modified mechanics. Don't get me wrong, it was a good game, just not the improvement I expected. I guess that holds true for the majority of FPS sequels.

I LOVED the first one, claptraps army was hilarious. After playing the 2nd one though, going back to the 1st one was slightly painful, if only for the way the mechanics now felt clunky. The "feel" of it was alot smoother in bl2 than bl1. Certain movements are prohibited in bl1 (sprint forward, wanna strafe SLIGHTLY left? cant, you'll stop sprinting) that I had become rather spoilt with in bl2. I found the bosfights in bl1 less engaging.
I concede that bl2 is more an expansion with modified mechanics/better graphics (which sequel isn't?), but surely you have to concede that they did indeed improve quite admirably on what was already an epic game.

An announcement that they are going to start production on the third one is not very exciting. When they actually have something to show then start the "hype" train. Right now there's literally nothing to latch on to except a vague idea.

Borderlands 2 was okay, but we are going to need some advancement in the concept otherwise we are just sitting with another heavily franchised game.

And what's more...

If they're on announcing it now, what ETA are we expecting, 1 year? 2-3 years?
As long as they don't follow the CoD trend and/or any other modern day shooter equivalent, and innovate, the franchise might not be making significant moves.

What i meant to say was i was hoping for something a bit more sinister this time around :p, But hopefully i can finish Pre-sequal first i see the first Major dlc is coming

Yeah like an evil claptrap maybe :D or Tiny Tina going more apeshit [emoji14]
I don't think Tina can get anymore apeshit than she already is, lol.

Looking forward to pre-sequel Claptrap campaign DLC and tomorrow is the new character as well.
