As the title suggests; isn't Borderlands a LOT like Fallout 3? I looked at the Borderlands review and was immediately reminded of Fallout 3?

Seriously? Cool beans then. Sorry fellas, I'm a bit in the dark about this game. It just reminds me so much of Fallout 3 that it's uncanny! I think the only solution is to pick this one up and play it! :)

Na its cool a lot of people dont know what to make of the game. Get yourself a buddy to play coop its the siz :d

Fallout is more of an exploration game, whereas with borderlands you're given the whole map. The quests are similar though, but combat is very very different.

You cant compare the two. Fallout is RPG with fps elements. Borderlands is a FPS/RPG hybrid. The story is paper this in borderlands where as Fallout 3 has a deep running story and universe. Both are must plays as both are utterly brilliant games. However you can not and should not compare the two, its a crime.
@Waco nah i would say Serious Sam. I would call it a Diablo 2 FPS, less some plot.

I feel I should comment here as my review is what lead to the confusion.

While on paper, there are numerous similarities, they are two completely different games.

Similarities

Huge, open, desolate world. FPS/RPG combo. Similar post-civilization setting.

Fundamental differences

Pacing: Borderlands is a lot faster, and more immediately accessible. Borderlands IMO is a superior FPS, while Fallout 3 offers more depth in terms of the RPG dynamic. Completely different tone, look and feel.

While one can compare them, the similarities are shallow.

As i said. Fallout 3 has FPS elements but remain at its core a an RPG game. Borderlands on the other hand, though having elements of both is a genre on its own, it strips down RPGs to its bones and use only what it needs to remain fun and discards what would normally make it fall into the niche RPG market. Things such as long boring and complicated Character sheets, Specs, Deep Plots and the like. It does the same from FPS's and brings the two together to form something new. Diablo did this back in the day. Combining the fast pace of a hack and slash with the depth and loot collection mechanic from and RPG.

When I saw the preview video for borderland (was watching it with my friends) we all thought it looked simelar to Fallout 3
