The Macallan 'M' Decanter 6-litre Imperiale attracted global interest at a Sotheby's auction, the firm said in a statement which identified the buyer only as an Asian private collector.

That is bloody insane, who has that kind of money to waste on whisky.
You can buy a Ferrari 458 with like 700 km on it second hand for 3.8 million.

The guy that bought this probably already has a Ferrari. And a Porsche. And a Merc etc etc. But yeah, crazy. And here I thought my collecting habits was borderline certifiable.

It's silly ..... as with all 'perishable' things that are collected. If I had to ever pay an amount like that and I highly doubt I would even if I could, you know I'm damn well drinking it and it better taste divine or someone is in deep dudu.

I would commint suicide if the bottle fell during transport, do you think he will ever drink it

That seems a bit drastic. I've never understood how people can spend so much money on something so worthless. I guess there's a sucker born every minute. Sometimes it just happens to be a very rich sucker.

I hope he stores it in the correct way, i know how wine needs to be stored to be preserved for a long time, but do any of you know how whisky should be stored.

I wouldn't say a sucker he probably got his money back in a week. Its better than gambling it away. I mean its the same as buying those models of your fav super hero I think its a lot of money for something like that. Its all a matter of perspective. If it brings him joy then its money well spent. He won't drink it its more of a collectors item.

So its more like a collectors item, i think to them its like cars, houses and clothing , they feel more important owning it and it gives him or even his company publicity to buy something as expensive as this. Its also about brag rights when around his friends.

I might have to buy a bottle of whisky after all this posting but it wont cost 6.8 million Rand. I had a buddy who would drive around with a crate of Black Label quarts in his boot, those were the days.
