BT Games working on digital download store

Good news. I know it is still early, but if they start running deals like GMG, they would certainly have my money :p

i was thinking of starting my own :) i should stop having good ideas and just have good actions!

It is good to see local brick-and-mortar stores embracing both online shopping and digital downloads. But I'm wondering "Where's the hook?", what will draw me to BT Games rather than dealing with Steam and Origin directly? I checked a few games between BT and Steam and there doesn't seem to be a price advantage: Steam $39.99 -> BT R399, Steam $19.99 -> BT R199.
So in general it is (Steam price * 10) = BT price.

Well since I don't have a CC this should open up the DLC world to me, how's that for a hook.

Also no cross-border consumer rights conflicts and all you can't be prosecuted for Tax evasion. Just a reminder downloading games off steam which you paid for is defined as an importation and you have the obligation to pay over the necessary VAT to sars.

If we can get Steam codes for the same price as the in-store games (meaning that it isn't a direct conversion from $ to R), then I'd go for it... especially for newer games. There is no way I'm paying R500 - R600 for a new PC game on Steam so if I can get Saints Row 4 for R350 for instance, then it sounds like a deal.

Get a cheque card. I have a credit card which I keep for emergencies (which hasn't happened in over a year), but for all my online purchases (local and international), I use my FNB cheque card.

I still think this is a great chance to plow money back into SA instead of paying America

I'm quite stoked about this news actually. And Ike_009 makes some very good points.

If BT games can offer it cheaper than Steam or other online stores then I will support them. If they are more expensive then I will continue to purchase from Steam and GMG etc.

We are still plowing money in to America. It's just about $5 less which we now pay South African retailers who's staff's reputation speaks for itself

Very nice idea although I prefer to have the physical copy in my hand otherwise I would have to download the whole game and the updates/patches.

The online store will be a distributor, the majority of the money will still go offshore, only the profit will potentially stay local. I'm very curious as to how they will pull this off.
