Burning question

I mean, sometimes it just comes out better saying "Woah, that's f***ing awesome" than "Awesome." Just times like that. Don't plan to spam the word or anything, just in contexts like "That game is f***ing crap" or something.

How about:

That game was absolutely brilliant or it was total rubbish?

The enRish langauge has a plethora of adjectives and adverbs. Why the need to refer to the use of a swear word?

AFAIK we are allowed to swear .... just not in excess or stupidly/all over the place. As long as we have no one abusing it and no mother Grundy's, I foresee no problems ;)

Actually that is where I disagree.

When posting on a public forum, or when I am in a public place, I take other people into consideration.

There are people who find it socially, ethically and even culturally unacceptable to use offensive langauge.

So when I post on a public forum, I try to moderate my langauge that takes others into consideration yet still adequately expresses my viewpoint.

The beauty of posting on a forum is that one can actually construct a reply and preview it before clicking on the submit button. This way, one can actually goto a site like dictionary<dot>com/thesaurus/synonyms/whatever (random example) and perhaps look up a more appropriate adjective / adverb / pronoun etc. for words that are deemed offensive.

One other thing. If swearing in moderation is allowed, where does one draw the line?

Anyway, that's my Zim$2000000000000000

Well, I'm not really out to swear at every given opportunity...but I also sometimes like to use it as an expression in my posts. I can easily find an alternative, I just don't see it as being that big of a deal. If someone finds it offensive I really don't mind stopping, but...you see where I'm going with this.

And even then, I don't plan to post everything with a swear word, but when it wants to come out I wanna let it come :D
Heh.

+1 Exactly ...... I think I've sworn in about 5 posts of mine and only in the TK. If people find issue with that, eish I dunno.

We are gonna see how it goes on this one.

On one hand, swearing does not offend me. However, a forum littered with trashy language can be off putting.

We will draw the line where we see fit do so, with input from you guys of course. Think of the forum as belonging to the community. My job is to keep it nice for you guys, so, if there is something you don't like, let me know.

I agree that there is always a better way to express yourself on a forum than resorting to swearing. Its odd, in everyday life swearing just washes over me, and I do it as much as your average bloke. However, it does have a way of defacing a forum that is quite hard to explain.

Personally, I like it right now as it is. People can swear if they want, but it seems that we all choose not to. I like having it allowed, giving people freedom to choose.

However, I also realize that this outlook is rather naive, and we will probably have to take a sterner stance when the forum gets bigger.

Quite an interesting view Tinman.

I think right now the community is still small enough to deal with it, but as soon as it grows into a large community where people hide behind internet anonymity and start comparing willy sizes, it may become an issue. As for now, I think we have a rather pleasant bunch of guys :)

Thanks for querying it, Tarvos!

haha, if it gets bad enough, just threaten to do what they have done on the Gmod forum,
if u so much as spell something wrong, your rank is dropped, do it enough and u get a temp ban lol

Well on SomethingAwful you can swear as much as you want but you get a ban/probation for saying "lol".

Great site, honestly, just...really strict. Troll free at the same time.

I seriously can't be bothered if someone is using "power words" in their posts or not.

The word "Fucking" on this forum would most likely be an extra description of something unbelievably great, or unbelievably bad or it might even suggest surprise or dismay at something that someone has posted.

I do however have a problem with people that would use this descriptive word as an insult or in a threating manner towards other people.

So basically it boils down to this:

a) That was an AWESOME FUCKING move ... did you see that shit? I mean WOW! - Is ok :)
b) I will fucking gorge out your eyes and scull fuck you into oblivion - Very nasty :(

But, I'll try and moderate myself, even when pissed out of my scull :D

Slippery slope this subject, but I take notice of Tinman's approach and think it is a good move to start off with.
