Why are you going for a motherboard that supports crossfire? If you get another 6850 that cpu will be shouting that its the bottleneck. Rather get a bigger hdd as the difference is size is very cheap
 
It's the cheapest LGA1155 MB I've been able to find, but I haven't looked past DC3 and Prophecy yet, so I'll probably be able to cut on the costs, because as you said, I don't need crossfire support.

I picked up my Intel board for R935, what price you paying for yours?
 
Good price, stick with it. However try save up the bit extra and go i5 so that if one day you do decide to get another 6850 then you will be able to have a better balanced machine without the i3 bottling it up. Even if you go 2300 i5
 
hey man put prices nect to all you components there and then if we see something thats better for cheaper we can let you know. Now we are just guessing.

Few things I need to know:

1. MB Specs suggest SATA 3.0Gb/s. The HD I'm thinking of buying is SATA 3 - 6.0Gb/s, compatible?
2. Will the Gfx card work on MB? HDMI? DVI? All that jazz?
3. Intel LGA775 Ready & Approved PSU, will this be compatible with the LGA1155 MB?
4. "When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended." It can still handle 64bit WIN OS right?
5. :D?

Stupid questions I know, but it's a lot of money and I need to be exactly sure I don't waste any.
 
1. I would go for SATA 3 as it will future proof your machine better.

2. The graphics card above will run on this mobo just fine but if you are going to be changing the mobo due to the SATA3 upgrade i would suggest getting something that has crossfire support(just a thought, future proof).

3. I would also suggest getting a power supply unit(psu) with an 80+ rating and something over 600w. if that is all you can afford for now then that psu is just fine for what you want to run but if that second gpu(graphics processing unit) come in you are gonna need more power.

4. I would get the 4GB ram and the window7 64bit. There is no real point in getting 32bit for anything. There is a posibility that it will pick up all 4GB but if say in a years tim you want to put another 4GB in your rig you will have to reinstall 64bit so just stick to 64bit.

5. If i could add some more suggestions. I would get the i5 2500k. for R400 or R500 more its a much much better cpu. Then you should have an awesome rig. All these thing cost a little more but will take you a very long way into the future.
 
All this talk about future-proofing sounds like a bunch of hogwash...until you realise just how long you will be keeping your components.

I found an old invoice for my current gfx card ... it dates back to 2007. :o

so yeah - future proof without going bossies with the price.

I'd also up the hdd. I bought a 2TB last week for R895.00 incl. just a thought. If you want to get fancy, you could even use a solid state drive for your OS and then a 1TB SATA for data/miscellaneous.

why is that hog wash? for a little more money you could save in 6 months. Its happened to me before that i have had to buy new PSU when i added a SLI GPU and if i had just added a bit more money i would not be sitting with PSU doing nothing in the games room. So i really dont think that its a waste if you spend a little more. Its not as if its R10k more, its maybe 1 or 2k more. hogwash i think not!

Nah I'm referring to the trap of "for R100 more I can get a better model...then for another R100 more I can get an even better one...but for a 3rd R100 more i can... etc." We've all been there and before you know it your budget is out the window. I'm just saying sometimes it's worth considering and waiting a bit longer until you DO have the budget for it.

Perhaps hogwash was the incorrect term..."trap of babysteps" perhaps?
 
Well that is what i am trying to say, unless he has the money for it now then why not? He will be saving money in the long run cause there is not much room for cheaper upgrades as the system stands now. That is all that i am saying.

Oh and the 2500K is double the price of the 2100 and the 2600K is triple the price.

That isn't a bad machine, i mean it isn't super but if you only have a budget of 5000 then you can't really do much better.

That card is the bulk of your cost though and the hdd is a bit silly, you can get a 500GB for just over R300 and a terabyte for R500

If you are going to buy an overclocked 6850, you might want to know the following

Me, I think I'm going to pick me up a VTX 3D 6850 when the sale of my current card goes through for around R1600.
