Bye bye EVE?

Very interesting development:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/06/26/eve-evolved-the-day-that-eve-online-died/

Basically EVE is hemorrhaging players all over the place due to some hard hitting cash decisions in their new cash store. Is this the end of EVE?

I would welcome any thoughts from anyone who reads this that plays EVE still.

I can tell you first hand that its rubbish. I was at the so called protest, and at most there were about 100 players (if you exclude the people there to watch the protest), which is like 0.001% of the eve player base.

They seem to be protesting about a misunderstanding that CCP are going to introduce "golden ammo". However CCP came out and said that they wouldn't be doing that. Since then the protests have almost all died.

And the end of Eve? Nope, its quiet the opposite. Around 1500 of the 350,000 players have said they wouldn't resub. Of that 1500 player list, none of them will really stop playing. Its just an act. Eve is actually growing very fast in numbers because of the latest expansion which has introduced the captains quarters, which greatly improves the new player experience. Before the new expansion I was struggling to recruit new players.

After the expansion I'm getting roughly 5 applications a day for my corp without lifting a finger. I think that speaks for itself.

A week or two ago, the record for the most players on the server at a time was also broken.

In regards to clothes... well who really cares how much they ask? Just dont buy clothes. If its too expensive then players will naturally vote with their wallets and the price will come down. Its a space game, not a fashion game afterall.

One thing is clear is that Eve is not dead or dying, but instead growing. The protesters are obviously trying to issue max damage to CCP by swelling up every news report they write to make it seem much worse than what it really is. Truth is that most of the protesters are simply joining in because its a unique situation and fun to be part of, even though they have no idea what they are protesting against.

I doubt players hooked on EVE will quit merely over the cash shop, at least not before it is actually in full swing. The "worst" they can do is refuse to buy from the store until CCP drops their insane prices.

EVE is in the fortunate position to not have any competition, so where exactly will all these players go anyway? So, nope, EVE will go on as usual , but players will just be alot more unhappy with CCP .

I agree even when things also changed in WoW people kept crying that WoW will die and it clearly hasn't so doubt it will happen to EVE.

It was a bit of internet drama that everyone quickly forgot about, kinda noteworthy since usually CPP doesn't tend to make such big PR mistakes. Something very similar happened when WoW started selling mounts, so it's not even that special.
Actually if you read the article is was rather took a rather assumption based tone, it didn't say anything about Eve loosing players rather that the poor community management by CPP might scare away new players.

eve online....
50 000 players, packed onto one server cluster, all flying around closely packed together, everyone thinking they are the best eve will ever see, untill you loose everything in 10seconds to me. heheh

ive been hard at this game for over 6-7 years, i can speak from experiance, -10 sec status for 5 of those years, living in low sec, i have maxed most of my racial skills out, close on 85mil.....plus every ship in the book, my alpha strike is epic, and even to this day, i cant say im a great player, i get my ass blown up, in a nice baited situations and even make rookie mistakes sometimes..heheh its the only game i can say that makes the blood pump and the hands shake. when ya have a few billion on the line....you got agro, and pointed....and you see more of his friends popping into local....thats when its fun!!!

EVE ONLINE 4 EVA !!
arrrrhhh

i just started playing eve after 3.5yrs break, and have met alot of people who have started playing again. quit wow ater 6 yrs and wont be going back to it, not sure on what to do with my wow account.

I don't know, the design decisions were horrible, but I don't see Eve dying off anytime soon. It's the only MMO that allows you total freedom without game rules getting in your way, like scamming newbies being totally legit.

Take what I did, as an example. I was in a corporation who got war-decced, and the baboons told me I'm not even allowed to leave the space station for the duration of the war-dec. Seeing as the time they expected me to waste was time I was actually paying for, I decided to be the bad guy and mailed the enemy corporation's leader. I told him I'd feed my corporation fake info and pass all the info on my corp's mails, movements, plans etc on to him, for the measly sum of 20mil ISK. Fun times, and you're allowed to be such an ass, because the game rules are set up to allow stuff like that. You can even raid your corporation's entire hanger without it breaching the game rules. Trying to steal all the items from a Guild Vault in WoW will probably end badly for you.

Anyone know of a good PVP/WH corp looking for ±9mil SP players? Ideally a low tax corp due to the amount of incursions I run from time to time.

Feel free to mail/convo "Evyl Schnukkems" ingame, or join channel "Bread Public", we do alot of pvp, as well as in the process of moving out of one WH, and into a much nicer hole, altho we need to remove two corps currently occupying our new hole :p lol.

So many dirty holes in EVE...

Eve will not die out anytime soon. The player base will double in the near future but those players won't technically be playing eve. Still dust is one more reason eve players won't leave the game soon. Lets not even talk about what crucible has in store for us. (fixing hybrid turrets yay!)

Well it seems as if Crucible has brought in a lot more activity to EVE. We're now getting visiters in our WH every day now. I'm a bit "meh" on the Tier 3 Battlecruisers though.
