Hey guys, my mates and I played some COD4 last night, had an awesome time with the Paintball and gungame mods
Are there any other fun mods that one can use at a lan? We tried a promod server before, but there's just way too many commands
Also, I cant seem to use the Starwars mod on lan (we use listen servers)

So, are there any other fun mods?
thnx

Ok here is what you do, as I only play cod4 Promod.

Setting up a promod server is freaken quick and easy.

Get yourself Promod 204, not 211, 204 is more lan friendly (http://blog.mavrick.id.au/call-of-duty/2009/promod-live-v2-04-eu-released/ or google)

You should know how to put mods in the correct places. Then start up your game, choose Start server and put your paramaters (TDM , S&D etc) once ingame you only have to type the following. /promod_mode lan mr24.
mr= max rounds. So if it's S&D you want to play, it will have max rounds at 24, where the team that reaches 13 first wins. If it's on TDM or FFA, the Max rounds won't be taken into account so it will work of your sever settings you setup in the menu.

Also creating a dedicated server is quick and easy dude. I will explain to you quickly on how to setup a dedi for Promod and Star Wars Galactic mod. Dedi servers are lekker :D and you can play from the machine you are hosting on.

Let's start with promod.

Make a shortcut of your iw3mp.exe. Rightclick the exe and go to properties. IN the target field add the following, note that you have to change the first bit to where your COD4 is installed :D. Also you will see a bit called fs_game mods/promodlive_1.
You have to change promodlive_1 to exactly what your promod folder says. So if your Promod folder under mods is called SeunPromod for example change the target line to fs_game mods/SeunPromod.

Here is my cod4 Promod Dedicated server target line on my iw3mp.exe shortcut.

E:\Games\COD4\iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 1 +set fs_game mods/promodlive_1 +set net_ip localhost +set net_port 28960 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

Star Wars galactic mod works 100% the same. Once the mod is in the correct place ( in your mods folder) make another shortcut of your iw3mp.exe file and add the following in it's target

E:\Games\COD4\iw3mp.exe +set fs_game mods/swm_gw1 +set net_ip localhost +set net_port 28960 +set dedicated 1 +exec config_swm.cfg

You will notice that both Promod and Galatic mod has a command at the end +exec config. 99% of the mods out there need these config files and they are supplied with the mod (mostly)

They handle things like Server name, Punkbuster etc. Not hard at all to configure though!

You will see that the Galactic mod has a configs folder. You have to go through each of the files in there to setup the server and paramaters the way you want it, or you can leave it default. It's just for customization.

The lekker thing is, you can play from the same pc that you are running a Dedi from.

How to control your server via the dedicated server console.

You will see that when you start a dedicated server and it will open and run through a few things. At the bottom is a text block where you can type commands.

These are the basic commands to get you going quick and easy.

To change the gametype: g_gametype
example: g_gametype sd for search and destroy
g_gametype dm for Free for all
g_gametype war for Team deathmatch

To change maps:
map mp_(map name)
example: map mp_backlot

While this is a lot to take in, the physical setup is quick and easy, setting up galactic mod with the configs tailored to your needs takes no more than 10 minutes. Most of the effort is in the testing of your settings though to make sure it's all working :D

Another mod that I would recommend:
COD4 Ace Mod. This is my favourite "vanilla" mod. Adds uber loads of configurable changes via the config files. Example, you can change the hardcore spawn delay, it has announcer voices for headshots, killing spree's etc from Unreal Tournament. It has realism options like no health regen, or shoot a guy in the leg and he will slow down or drop. Shoot a guy in the arm and he might drop his weapon etc. Also has a very good anti camping system that you can configure with punishments. :D. There is also a medic system, configurable killstreaks the works, contains waay to much to put down here.

Also get as many Custom maps as possible. Custom maps really liven up the game!
http://www.codutility.com/index.php?file=Page&name=Latest_CoD4_Maps.

There are over 700 to choose from, and some of them are superb quality.

Remember that any map you download has to be put in the usermaps folder in your game's root. Also you have to add these maps to the maprotations in your config files.

:D
At first I thought damm dude, that's a lot to take in, but it doesn't seem that difficult now after I really read it
I think I get it know .
