Can Someone please, in very plain laymen, explain the whole Web Africa Deal thing to me please?
Moving to PC Gaming.
So i can buy 1 gb of Pre-paid Webafrica Bandwith and use it to play online, on their servers, or download stuff from Steal?
Yeah I think it is all a distraction from Webafrica's really high prices. Yes they have local game servers but most of the time no one is on them. They say a local Steam server is on the way, where is it now? we are sitting on the 5th of Feb and nothing. Must say I am not impressed by some people at WA (Who shall remain nameless)
I dont think moving over to WA is a smart move just yet, its too late for me, although I am busy using Gconnect because of their prices.![]()
I really don't think you should Steal stuff Omega. You could go to jail for that.
But yes, with 1GB prepaid you can play on the Wage servers for free. However the local Steam server is not available to the public yet.
WebAfrica will also be announcing their price reductions this month.
They bringing out there new prices in march, the CEO explained it all on myBB, Give them a break, they may not be bumping ubercheap BW like Afrihost but they working hard to get us some better deals, the trials showed us that
Omega you can also download a few Gb worth of stuff of the ftp.wage.co.za server, have a looksee
Pffft working hard to get us some better deals, thats what they say. I reckon they are trying hard to keep their customers from switching. I will wait for their "price reductions" which I thought were going to happen in Feb. For the mean time I am using Gconnect R22 p/g much better than the R70 p/g.
The Steam server is a excellent idea and that is worth waiting for. But... Wage on the other hand I am not so sure.
comes from someone who either do not know that they went teir 1 or does not understand the implications of doing so.Pffft working hard to get us some better deals, thats what they say.
When you think about it, there's actually a reason why WebAfrica is the last ISP to bring down their prices. They are the only one to have moved to a teir 1 network.
That's why it's a little annoying when people come and bash WebAfrica. They've gone through a trial of using a new network and during the trial they said when they will lower their prices.
I commend WebAfrica for having the foresight of doing proper testing with their new network before lowering their prices. Imagine how unstable a new network can be if they lower their prices and everyone suddenly join them. I also commend WebAfrica for bringing in gaming related services.

Ag, I have neither the time nor energy to aimlessly argue this point. Sounds like you have a particular interest in WA that you are defending so avidly. Yes I am bashing WA because I kind of know what is happening. I do understand what you mean by "tier 1" even though this is not completely relevant and is not really a technical term. Webafrica is a good ISP for gamers due to low ping and fast international access. I am saying Wage is not that much of an advantage to us Webafrica users. Their servers are often empty from what I have seen.
Yes, Webafrica has been testing their network before they lower their prices, but I am sure this is a convenience to them rather than inconvenience unless they are using the classic demand and supply method to control customers. That is the only thing I can think of.
Look, I do quite like WA its just one gets annoyed every now and then, bring out the Steam server and continue jacking up Wage, then Ill be satisfied.![]()
I agree with you. Eh sorry if my previous post seemed a bit angry. I was in a terrible grumpy mood when I wrote it. The people next door have been partying for two nights in a row now and I'm not getting any sleep.
But yes I also hope that WebAfrica comes with the lower prices now and the Steam server. I am using Afrihost until then.![]()
