Cans of compressed air

Vacuum and blow both create static, that's kind of the reason why compressed air is popular for cleaning out hardware.

It's an industrial vacuum with the motor electrostatically shielded. The motor in the vacuum cleaner is actually the largest generator of static. If you're concerned about the large movements of dust creating static in and of itself, consider that when you use compressed air, it is doing exactly the same thing anyway... Just be careful not to touch pc components with the end of the vacuum cleaner and it should be fine...

I know the thread is rather old but since I have been unable to find any compressed air cans for the last two weeks and need some advice for where to find some. Tried about 10 pc shops and another 10 hardware stores around pretoria but none have any. So any suggestion from guys in pretoria??

Would also consider getting a blowe, any recommendations??

Hey stephan have you checked IC yet it normally comes bundled (cleaning kit)

Or you could maybe looking into getting a mini leaf blower from mica or makro they cost about R400-R800 but they well worth it and last longer than compressed air.

Or take your pc to the garage and blow it out there.

I usually buy from IC. But neither atterbury or menlyn has. They used to stock dust buster which you can buy seperately or in the cleaning kit. But they don't have stock and no one knows when they will get.

Will take a look at the blower, if I can't find compressed air cans.

Really don't wan't to take the pc to the garage.

Get small air-compressor. Now I clean my puters and consoles every other month.
Good for checking pressure on tiers too :)

Last time I was in Menlyn, New World were still selling cans of compressed air.

Get a blower dude, then you will never have this hassle again.

I stripped my PC completely about a month ago. And I mean totally disassembled. Took off front panels. Took out all fans and PSU and HDDs, everything. Then proceeded to clean chassis with a new clean paint brush first. Then blew out the fans and components. Then used rubbing alcohol to clean the dirty parts of chassis and some fans. Blah blah blah. You get the idea. Took about 2 hours or so to finish everything. Now, a month later there is dust build up again. My point is, get a blower, because you can then regularly keep it clean without having to resort to finding those blimming cans which only last for one or two good blowjobs. :D Pun intended.

I borrowed one from work several weeks back to do that.

Would blowers not have the same issue with static electricity that vacuum cleaners do?

I am not sure but the blower never goes into the machine and its my pc is completely disconnected when i do do this and grounded as i do it outside.
