Capped versus Uncapped - Does this idea make any sense?

all my downloads (Steam, torrents, NZB) are scheduled to run between 00:00 and 06:00. if there is something I want downloaded NOW I'll start it during "peak" time, and I still end the month with a chunk of data to spare
 
Becarefull with capped and read the conditions there is a recent trend of isp's starting to apply shaping to capped accounts as well...

Shaping to "Home" accounts in not an uncommon practice. They simply state that during work hours traffic will be prioritised to business and other higher tier accounts. After 6 pm it's mostly unshapped but that also depends on the traffic.

For a long time capped accounts was totally unshaped this has only recently become a common practise. Shouldn't be implemented at all on capped accounts imho but that's the way our isp operate....
 
Just been told that the block I'm moving into already has an ADSL exchange, all I need to do is get a Telkom technician to come to my unit and connect it to the exchange. Does that mean that I need to order a new line then get the technician to come and connect it to the exchange ?

Don't want to have to pay the full installation fee's etc when the building already has ADSL.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this =/

Edit: posted this on my broadband also as it seems more relevant over there.

Sigh, this reminds me of the days when we as Saffers had to use RouteSentry and shit just to optimize and make our internet usage affordable... How long until we finally get to move forward in this bleddy country...

But yes Greg, it makes sense what you're doing. Going usage based is probably the best way of getting better, unshaped bandwidth that's good for a lot of people's scenario. Also, you get to use the full speed of your line as opposed to having a policed internet breakout.

Even if it comes in at the same price you would pay for an uncapped internet service, it's better because the your traffic is not mangled and molested on the way to its destination.
