The classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of the most influential games of all time, and arguably the finest entry into the Castlevania series, has received an ESRB rating for PC.

The 1997 original PlayStation game released on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, but that is as recent as ports for the game get. There are sketchy ways to get your hands on a copy playable on PC, but those ways generally involve emulators and dark corners of the internet where pirates are known to lurk.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night makes up a large portion of the "-vania" part of the "Metroidvania" portmanteau. The term was coined to describe games where players must find their way through a map, passing through areas time and time again to discover powers and items that will allow progression to the next area of the game. Many will argue that Symphony of the Night was the first non-Metroid game to truly perfect the formula, and the addition of items, spells, and a role-playing-like leveling system has allowed Symphony of the Night to stand up to the test of time.

We've reached out for comment to Konami to find out more on this exciting news. If you haven't played the game, and you own a PC, you may be getting your chance to play one of the all-time greats. In the meantime, the grey-market has original PSOne copies of the game for around $25 USD, but those discs won't work in your disc drive.

Seriously, This is one of the best games Ever

I have to agree. I got myself a copy of the Japanese version on PSOne before the English version was released. Really enjoyed it. I got it on my 360, but haven't played through much. Maybe I should bump it up on my backlog.
