So I saw a guy at Brightwater Commons that repairs scratches on CD's etc.. using some sort of machine similiar to the one below

He charges about R20. My friend tells me that BT Games also does the same for R10

Has anyone had any success with these machines/procedures?

I have a PS3 CODAW Disc that's scratched . Need to get it repaired if possible.

Agreed with PsychoFish they have them in most DVD stores as well, but its more of a polish/maintenance thing in my opinion.

It might help, hey 20 bucks is well worth it if you can play the game again...

If it's a minor scratch try rubbing toothpaste over it and clean it off. It works surprisingly well.

I was one of the first guys to buy a similar machine in PE a good few years ago. Had a youngster to operate and test the disks afterwards.

I only booked in original disks as you cannot rescue "copied" disks.

Reason...

The first test is to place the disks on a base with a bright light underneath it. If there was any hole or scratch through the reflective layer then we rejected the disk immediately.

If not, the first step is to use a very fine sanding disk using water to lubricate the process. Then we used a buffing disk and finally a polishing disk with a chemical compound.

Finally the youngster would test the disk.

This went well for about two years until some bright spark imported a whole consignment of cheap rubbish machines and flogged them off to the video shops. These were basically polishers and did not "repair" the disk. I sold off my machine to one of the biggest shops here as the youngster had also found full time employment for a better salary...

TL : DR version - you get decent machines that can repair disks. Cheap ones are glorified polishers.

Ah I would've tried the toothpaste hack but only read that now. Going to give it in at BT games the glen and hope for the best.

Heres what it looks like

I can vouch for the toothpaste trick - it's a mild abrasive so removes a thin layer of the plastic that contains the scratch, data sealed inside the disk is unaffected.

Thanks guys! I'll try the toothpaste trick when I get home when I get home.

Worked for me once..Had a batman game that kept getting stuck in the menus..Got it cleaned and never had the problem again..Disc was in slightly better condition than yours though so I don't know..

(If you haven't already tried the toothpaste)
