Cheap graphics card

Hey dudes

I'm looking for a cheap graphics card and can pick up a MSI GeForce Graphics Card GT520 - 1GB 64Bit DDR3 - PCI-E
for about R500.

I really don't want to go over R500 on it. looking for something to handle Skyrim / MW3 and Eve online really. I don't care I can't run it max or ultra graphics. Spent most of my life playing on med to low, so why change now.

Anyway how's this for a budget card, or is there something better I can get? I'm not interested in a second hand card unless its at the right price (read free :p )

Look for something like an older model card maybe. For instance a ATI Radeon 4670HD 1gb 128bit card would go brand new for about R500 now. I think you should maybe go a bit higher then R500. Do you want to buy a new card each year? Make your max R600.

Try this list out: http://www.pricecheck.co.za/categories/129/Graphics+Cards/l/0/o.price/ASC/

I'd say start on page 5 or something. Also the 4670 is a decent card, it plays mw3 and skyrim like a dream. If I see anything else I'd link it here.

Thanks Axon

I've been out to hardware specs for so long I don't know whats what these days.

A few of those are out of stock and I'd rather deal with a retailer I know.

What about these two from Zaps?

MSI nVidia GeForce GT 520 PCI Express x16 2 GDDR3 1GB 128 Bit GPU 730 Mem 1800MHz DirectX 11 Graphics Card
http://www.zapsonline.com/new-500-s...730-mem-1800mhz-directx-11-graphics-card.html at R505

or slightly more out my range at R770
Sapphire HD5670 Hdmi Ready Eyefinity DX11 1GB DDR3 up to 2.8GB Hyper Memory FRSC-S56701GD3H
http://www.zapsonline.com/atilatest...-up-to-28gb-hyper-memory-frsc-s56701gd3h.html

Is hyper memory worth it? I've never been a fan of the shared memory. My pc does has 12GB ram though (yeah I know, I have to be different)

Here's what I go by:

First off check that it's atleast 128Bit. Though if you can get something higher then go for it.
Next is memory: 512 is okay, but 1GB really does make a difference. So does DDR3 compared to DDR2, and DDR5 is best.
Third I check the cooling on the unit, I like something I can always push a bit further.
Here's where MSI and Asus rule, with great cooling units and good enough clockability.

So if you look at the two you gave me, here's a brief comparison:
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=650&card2=579

Here's what it means: The 520 is 64bit, compared to the 128bit AMD card. Yet the AMD only supports DirectX10 (not that this will bother me at all) I'd go for the AMD card in the end, but if I really had an option, I'd rather wait and save up about R1000 because that's where the sweet spot is at the moment. That's what I'd spend on my next card.

Or you could buy my card for R500 :P

haha well that ended up being a pointless thread lol.

But I would say much better choice then in the R500 bracket. Bad idea to go entry if you have any gaming ideas in mind. Go as high as you can and then a little more, then you get a good buy. Usually... :)
