ChessConquest - official discussion thread

Has anybody gotten to a stage where they've finished all their games so that there are no active games left? This is no easy task. As soon as you win a couple of games, new ones pop up.

I've been trying to push my current games to finish them up to take a bit of a break but I'm busy with a couple of hectic games at the moment. I'm also engaged in two tournaments against Sloth... I've won two games against him (one in each tournament) and it seems like I'm probably going to loose my other two games against him which means, two new games against Sloth.

Easy solution, if you lose all your games the problem seems to go away :p

Yotta, can we perhaps get some of the rankings cleaned up? Maybe if a person hasn't made a move in over 90 days, reset his/her rating to P1200.

Hey ViperGTI... I'll see what I can do about the rankings.

But I agree it needs to be cleaned up (a few players requested this).

Yes please.

One note about the rankings: Inactive players should drop faster than they do at present. This may create a problem as players who don't finish a game for a long time may get punished for inactivity even though they may be playing multiple games.

My solution for this problem is as follows: the moment an active player loses a game on a timeout or has completed all his games, he becomes "inactive." The moment an inactive player makes a move he becomes "active" once more, and is no longer penalized on his rating for inactivity.

I hope this helps.

Alfred

Hey just want to say I have 2 chesscube accounts that I don't use and Am willing to give away if anybody wants to play some proper online chess. One account is at 1800+ rating and the other is at 2200+ rating. If your fide (or chessa ) rating is anything over 1700 , or hell if you just want to play I can give it to you. Chesscube is a flash website used for playing chess. It has a huge community ( except when you are at 2500+ it can take a few minutes to find games ) . If you want to practice your newly learned openings this is the site to do it. Fast and simple.

I don't mean to say people should rather play on chesscube than chess conquest, please don't take it like that , it's just another awesome site where you can quickly practice your chess. Kind of like an faster alternative. Hope this helps to whoever might need it.

No offense taken. ChessConquest does not have a blitz chess feature and is more geared for players wanting to play a slower game.

Yeah, I never saw the two sites as competing against each other. They serve two different audiences.

This group been very quite for some time now. I got a bit worried. I can't complain because i have not been very active myself and i just relished why i don't post often, i always get logged out before i can post my message.

Yotta how is it going with the new versions of ChessConquest?
I am finding it harder to login to play each day and now only play the monthly tournaments so i only have to make a move once every 5 days. It is no fault of the website but more of my current circumstance where my work is keeping me so busy that i don't always have time to go sit before the pc.
These days I play chess more on my Android phone, Chess by Post works on iPhone, Android, Windows Phones and Window8 and gives you a notification as soon as your opponent makes a move, otherwise you have 5 days to make your move or get auto time out.
It keeps me going in between my ChessConquest games but it is not the same as ChessConquest.
Let me know what you think.

Hey Horlicks, good to hear from you.

Yotta how is it going with the new versions of ChessConquest?

I have all the ideas and improvements gathered from the existing version of ChessConquest nailed down, and the main hold up at this point is that I'm "in between" development technologies. New and better web development technologies emerged in recent months that completely disrupted my development plans.

Since the next version of ChessConquest is a major commitment on my part, I need to take my time to ensure I commit to the correct technology for the best possible long term growth of ChessConquest.

Unfortunately I still cannot commit to any ETA at this point.

You're not the only one Horlicks, and just emphasized the importance of having a proper mobile interface.

The amount of tournament entries dropped (especially with the Speed Kings tournaments). We've recently revised the frequency of the tournaments (e.g. Speed Kings are now held only every third week instead of every week). Since this revision the amount of player entries per tournaments increased significantly. I think most players (including myself) underestimated how quickly your amount of games increases when you enter every tournament.

Had a quick look at "Chess by post", and it looks like a very nice concept. Will have to look into it with more detail...

My best chess game ever...

Every now and then one has one of those chess games that you will remember forever... and I had such a game recently.

At move 21 (I'm black) my opponent was up one knight, one castle, one pawn and threatened check mate with her next move, for the following 15 moves... and somehow I managed to turn around the game completely (my best comeback in a chess game ever).

To me the moral of the story with this game is, never give up.
