Clean a PS3?

Achtung!Baby

I think my ps3 may be full of dust, its freezing up a lot. How do I clean it? Someone told me to use a blowdrier??? :wtf:
Or does anyone know places/stores where I can get it cleaned?

Just open the PS3 up and use a blower(or your lungs :D) and that will get rid of the dust.

As much as I'm personally opposed to using blowers of any nature on electronics...

Please make sure you use compressed pc cleaner aerosol cans if you're gonna blow the dust out. Doing it with your own lungs and mouth will inevitably end spit-droplets in the system.
Using another type of blower can volley other harmful particles where they don't belong.

Safest is a vacuum cleaner.
Next to that, compressed aerosol pc cleaner.

Im afraid to open up my ps3 on my own. Im a girl and we are known for screwing things up... lol. Is it really that simple, wont I accidentally break something?

Thanks for that, if I open it, I will surely try that.

Dont open it if you want to keep your warranty.

Why dont you use compressed air ?
Dont you know someone who owns a compressor ?

Take pics of you opening it up and post them here :D?

That's an idea!

We can start a poll to take guesses at how many spare parts are left after she's done putting it back together. :D

(No, I'm not making fun of you because you're a girl AttentionGirl :p But I have worked in an electronics store fixing tv's etc. for some time and there's ALWAYS spares left. Especially on bloody VCR machines. :o)

I dunno about a vacccum cleaner. That means you have to either touch or get very close with the nossle to parts and that will lead to breaking of electronics.

Rather get a blower or a compressed air can. Much safer. That do not exert that much pressure that they will damage anything. My 0.003 cents anyway(times are tough, can't afford 2c anymore)

If you don't know anyone with a compressor, take it to your nearest petrol station. They have a compressor at every pump.

Ja, but those do pack a punch, so maybe stand a bit back with the console! Don't blow from too close.

I opened my "fat-line" PS3 once to install new thermal paste to the GPU/CPU. I can assure you, if you're affraid of opening electronic devices then the PS3 is something to stay away from. Once I was done opening and disassembling everything, I looked at everything on the table, and actually started to panic lol. Luckily I got everything back together again - except for ONE screw. lol - I could have saved Sony millions!!!

Don't be scared to open it, just take as many pictures as you can and video if you want and follow the instructions and you should be fine. I wouldn't dare use a compressor as that might be to strong as well as possibly clog the dust further into certain places.

You can also try wrapping the PS3 in a few thick towels and then chucking it in your washing machine. Should clear the dust right out. I wouldn't use a front loader washing machine though. Rather go with a top loader. And then just let it air dry in the sun for about 4 or 5 days. Do NOT use in tumble drier though.*

These opinion are those of the author and not necessarily meant to be taken seriously. The author shall also not be responsible for any failed units if this does not work... :D

Just to clarify...

The Vacuum cleaner option is for when you DONT open the PS3.

And just another quick one... using a compressor to clean any electronics circuits is a REALLY bad idea.
Those compressors typically do not have sufficient air filters and its quite common for them to rocket a bit of grit through the system and completely obliterate some innocent component on the item being cleaned.

Compressed can of air > Compressor.
