cod mw1 vs nvidia optimus

I'm in the mood for COD MW 1 again and I'm trying to run it on a laptop with a nvidia 620m GPU.
This is one of those nvidia Optimus setups where the intel graphics are used for everything and the nvidia Gpu kick is for games etc.

I already added the game in the nvidia control panel->manage 3d settings, but it keeps on crashing with
"DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error"
and windows event viewer:
"FDM8 : FdmCom : Gfx.Engine NOT supported : EngineIntel8"

Googling the error does not offer anything new to try.
I have tried compatibility mode, updated to latest directX+graphics drivers+game updates.
Right click->run with graphics processor->nvida
Even tried a cracked exe, with no success
 
It appears that it's still trying to run with your Intel HD graphics. If you right clock on the game's icon/shortcut, you should see.. RUN AS.. followed by your nvida gpu and intel gpu. Click your Nvidia one and see if it gives the same error?
 
Updated all drivers.
Updated directX.
All windows updates.
All c++ redistributables installed.
Tried copying d3d9.DLL to game folder.

It seems to be a broad problem with other games as well according to Googling incl
Just cause 2, Total war 2 etc
