Column: Are you addicted to video games?

I'm definitely not. I barely play anything during the week anymore, so lately most of my gaming has been relegated to the weekends. :/
 
I feel that video game addiction is a lot like gambling addiction – the same desire to win money that addicts people to gambling is responsible for people hungering for success in their game, be it achievements, levels, power, in-game currency, reputation or notoriety. Within a video game addict’s game is an entire community, an entire world, in which he/she strives to be somebody in. And that desire can be very powerful, and thus very dangerous.

Nope...in fact I'm playing less now than I ever did. I don't play MP much and no MMOs at all, which is where most of the so called 'danger' lies - upgrading, new stuff, leveling up and 'just one more round syndrome'.
I seem to be addicted to buying games though....

No, seriously, I don't buy games on impulse anymore. Only the ones I really look forward to. And the ones I bought recently are the only ones I play. The last 2 games I bought was Witcher 2 and Dirt 3. Finished Witcher and I'm almost done with Dirt. I'm buying BF3 next and thereafter the other games can wait. :D

I used to be into my gaming, not heavily, but I would play for a decent amount of time when I got home from work. Now I just seem to be moving away from that scene... Games don't interest me anymore... These days I play around maybe an hour and then I'm off to bed...

I must say

At one point in my life, i was very much obsessed with gaming and particularly with the COD franchise, thankfully i had parents to guide me else i would have messed up my year in college big time, much like an addict to gambling is gaming, Chris you are right, i was lucky enough to pull through all for this but others not so lucky, its a human nature thing, some people become addicted to fitness and others to junk food.

Im just glad thats all behind me now....
 
I suppose it depends on how many other prominent things you have that occupy your time.
I have quite a demanding job so I hardly get time to play in the week and most weekends there are social responsibilities, I am told that playing Mass Effect while there are guests in the lounge is rude...
 
I used to be addicted to World of Warcrack.

Flunked out of varsity, lost some friends. 5 years flew by me.

Egh, so glad I'm done with it.
 
I am somewhat addicted to gaming. As soon as I get a new game, the grades plummet. I cannot stop myself from playing. Or when I don't play I think of the game and what level I am on. That's why its best I only get a new game once every few months.

But this is a problem I agree, there are people who are extremely obsessed with gaming and it defines their lives. It should be a pastime and not take up all your time or your life. *Need to practice what I preach*
