Comic Books

You're in for a treat. I polished the first three volumes and I'm going to start with the rest soon. I don't expect that they will show a lot of the more interesting scenes in the show (you'll see what I mean). But I'm hoping for the best.

If you've only read the first three then you are in for a shock still. Some of the more shocking scenes are towards the end and in the one offs, especially with Jody and TC. Hectic.

Preacher is one of the best series that I have ever read. Everything comes together perfectly. There are no loose ends and no lazy writing. It's written like Ennis planned everything. I have't read it through a third time yet (I last read it in 2005 or so), but I probably will read it again before the series starts. To be honest though, I am a little worried how they execute it. There is too much in there that is simply going to be too harsh for TV, even for AMC. But we'll see.

And carry on reading, it just gets better and better.

Yeah, I plan to. I have all of the trades at home. I can't see how half of the stuff so far can even make it onto TV. But I'll be watching anyway.

Hey people!

I read a metric shit ton of comics over the December break. Civil War, Ultimate Spider-Man vol. 1, The Ultimates vol. 2, Wolverine: Origin, and a whole bunch more.

What have you all been reading?

I've been off any new-ish stuff for a while: I'm busy reading Sandman Vol 7 at the moment and loving Sandman as usual. i'm working my way up to Overture which I have never read.

Recently, I finished Maus - what a hectic story.
Alan Moore's Swamp Thing vol 4 - Alan Moore is always great.
I'm somewhere in the middle of Planet Hulk, I'm nearly at World War Hulk - I think it was over-hyped for me, I expected a bit more from it.

Same with Planet Hulk. Everyone went on about it. It wasn't life changing, but good. Ja, I haven't touched new comics in a while, I'm still working through the Ultimate Graphic Novel collection. I still really want to read Maus. I did an online course about comic books a while ago and one of the most referenced books in the course was Spiegelman's Maus.

You should definitely read Maus. It's quite a heart-breaking book though, so read it in the sun on a good day when you people that you love around you.

So.... Preacher..... I don't see the TV adaptation being anything like the comic

:D I was literally just discussing this with a buddy. I don't think that they are going to be able to show everything as it should be shown. The material is just far too sensitive for a general audience. Sure, they will show the gore and violence, but even with that, they will never be able to show the rest of the material. I think it's going to come across as diluted.

hmmmm.... money talks :p

Maybe they can be clever about it. Remember in Scarface, there is a scene where the chainsaw a guy. But you never actually see it happen, even though you know it is happening and it is just as hectic. Stuff like that.

(It isn't spoilers, that movie is a billion years old).

yeah I think there won't be a Genesis. Or an Arseface. Or a Cassidy. Well, Cassidy will be there but I don't think he's going to be a vampire

Arseface is there, they released a character portrait of him.

*googling!*

EDIT: looks a bit..... kak :(

And I think it's unlikely that they will include TC or his penchant for buggery.

And what about The Messiah and that whole story? I doubt any of that will make it in.
