Comic Books

Hey pp

Just thought I would start a new thread based on comic books the books which are still going even way after our great grandparents have passed lol... I thought i would start by saying that one comic that I really enjoy is The Last Man - you know the guy with the monkey obviously being the last guy on earth i mean how awesome is that comic book series :D

I actually haven't read comics in a long, long time. I used to follow Spiderman pretty closely though :P
If I find a decent comic store I'll get into it again, but so long I have been reading some online Mangas. They don't count though, they're too...Japanese.

I read Asterix all the time, just brilliant. Was a fan of spider-man and x-men but they seem to be going downhill. Now it's mostly manga with a bit of Archie thrown in now and again.

Do they still publish Archie comics or is it mostly old stuff you are reading?
And Asterix, you book it out of the Library or actually bought it?

I thought both of these have been retired a long time ago.

Na you'll still find them around. I bought Asterix, you'll also find all of them in Exclusive Books. Not so sure on Archie but I'm always trading mine with a couple friends.

I never really read comics. One or two here but as a child I was way more into books.

But I absolutely love the deadpool comics. Downloaded the entire series for myself :)

Well theres outer limits? Thats probably the best comics store in the country, and their hq is in melville i think(not sure), so it would be perfect for u

Funny you mention that, Asterix is the only comic range I actively followed.

My neighbour back then who was over 70 had each and every single Asterix comic that was printed and he had them all bound into 3 hardcover old dictionary type books. With the name imbedded in a goldlike finish on the front.

It was truly amazing. I borrowed them and read them time and again!

That's quite a collector's item. It is probably worth thousands of R's

I used to go and sit in the library and read them.

When I was young (oh so many years ago), all the kids used to have comics (these are the days before TV) and we used to do the rounds of our friends and swopped comics with them, there were complex rules about how you could only swop "Gold Key" for "Gold Key" or "Harvey" for "Harvey" and one "Classics Illustrated" = 2 "Harvey", "DC" for "DC". We also used to collect (and read) Battle Picture Library and War Picture Library (which is where we learnt to speak German and Japanese). There were also "book exchanges" where you could go swop out comics at 1 for 1 and 2cents. You could also get the latest slightly used issue of "Tessa" and "Wit Tier" and "Grensvegter" there for the princely sum of 25 cents.
I loved Asterix as a child, but for some reason Tintin was more my favourite (and still is), and there was also Lucky Luke which was really funny.
Then comics took a dive... and. Only superhero's seem to have survived.
What you get now are shades of their former self, but for those of you who are my age, do you remember "Little Lotta, Baby Huey, Little Dot, Richie Rich, Sad Sack, Hot Stuff, Chip 'n Dale, Caspar, Spooky, Wendy the Witch, Audrey" and so many others who's names escape me.
There were also the "comics" that originated in the UK like "Beano, Dandy, Lion" etc.
BTW. Harbey, Gold Key and DC, Classics Illustrated were all comic publishers, very similar to Marvell.

I used to read Hellblazer. John Constantine is an interesting character and the stories tend to be dark and focus on the occult.

Hmmm haven't read any since last year May though. I should maybe try to get hold of the issues that I missed.

Jeepers! Did your post bring back memories!
I remember Little Lotta (was she the obnoxious fat girl? or was it little dot... omw it was so many moons ago!) and Richie Rich the best. Hot Stuff (that little devil!), Caspar and wow, I even remember Wendy the Witch and Baby Huey!
Chip n Dale the Chipmunks was lol too :D

And yes, I did actually read some Wit Tier (Luiperd?)and Grensvegter, man, I was young. Beau Brummel also had some good comics.

Thanks for your post! +10 :)
