Comic Con South Africa is official

You know what, screw it, I should just start implementing my ideas. I was toying with the idea of bringing a comic con like thing to South Africa.

Waaaait a second... this is rather sudden hey? I mean end of the month? Only really being announced now?
Also Cape Town YEAAAAAAAAH!

I anticipate this will start small, but hopefully, maybe, one day we too can attend a panel featuring Joss Whedon and the cast of Firefly.

At worst this could be a supersized Icon, at best it could be pretty cool. Anyone who goes must please post your thoughts. I could very easily make a t rip down to CPT next year if it's good enough.

I'm not expecting any fireworks ... the venue doesn't really inspire tons of confidence. Add the R150 charge for entry, the 3 week notice period is ridiculous for anything wanting to associate itself with Comic Con.

Never been to Icon, but I don't see this being a supersized version of that.

Yeah, doesn't seem well planned. Has anyone contacted the original comic con for comment?

Dunno so much about this event http://www.lazygamer.net/south-africa/the-unfortunate-truth-behind-comic-con-south-africa/

The organisers are saying they are blown away by the huge response their event has received but that simply points to them not really having any idea about the comic book fan base in South Africa or the culture that follows it.. which led us to contact Comic-Con themselves and check out whether this is truly an affiliated event.

The response was swift and clear with Mike Stoltz, PR for Comic-Con International responding:

“Thank you for your email. We are not affiliated with that convention and don’t know anything about it.”

That pretty much seals it for me.
