Coming back to a game after a break

Sometimes I'll start a game and then get distracted. So it might be a few months before you get back to it.

This causes a few issues.

You forget the story.
You forget the mechanics of the game
You forget what some keys do

What do/would you do?

I sometimes just check out the menu for what keys trigger what action and build back up from there. I sometimes think that restarting might be better.

This happens to me alot when playing mmo rpg's, after a few months of not playing, I just decide, "screw it, let's star over" because a lot of the time I have forgotten what I wanted to do with the charachter in terms of build and i forget what the items in my inventory were for, if i was saving them for later or not, so I just begin anew, which I don't mind, since some mechanics in mmos sometimes change over time and it is just better to start over so I can adabt to the new stuff quicker.

Oh, I've done this plenty of times. I actually rarely sit and complete a game from start to end. The last game I really lost myself in and spent literally 100 hours in was Zelda BotW. In fact I'm doing this right now with Far Cry Primal.

So for me, it depends on the type of game. If it's a big open world game, I normally walk around and familiarise myself with the controls and world. I find that the story normally comes back to me the more I interact with the world then.

For more linear games I would rather question whether or not I want to do the start again. Do I want to subject myself to that, or am I okay with progressing from where I am. I usually decide to just start from scratch.

Most of the time I finish the games that I start. If for some reason I stop then I end up starting from the beginning again when I play it again.

I get bored too easily with one game, but suffer if I stop for a while. Assasins creed is my most stopped game. I just cant do the timed stuff
