Computer for Minecraft

Hello

My son plays mainly Minecraft and he would like to buy a computer for himself. AT the moment he is playing in a laptop but he says it lags too much. What do you recommend. He will pay with his own money (he is 12).

What do you recommend. We have been told that it does not have to be as powerful. We got a quote for a prebuilt computer- an I3 processor with 4 gigs for R4999 Plus extra 4gig Ram for R599 plus the Palit 720 graphics card 2 gig for R1599. (all excluding VAT). and a screen which we can use one we have for the time being. The screen we were quoted on was a Acer 19 screen for R1399 excluding VAT.

Is that good enough , or is there a better configuration or a cheaper one. Where is the best place to buy the computer from?

Thanks
Amg

Would you prefer buying new parts or would buying 2nd hand parts be an option? Maybe putting a pc together could be some good father son time , and will be a while lot cheaper :) amg

Look at wootware really awesome place to shop for parts.
If your going with 2de hand then carbonite forums are really good. Don't have much time need to get to work on some pypes but can post later with a more indepth post.

Also minecraft chows reasources don't make the mistake to think its too light on resources.

Hello amg

If lag is a problem, try building a machine to the recommended specs of Minecraft, which is:

CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
HDD: 1GB
Latest release of Java 8 from java.com

That means that the CPU should be fine, the RAM should be fine, but I would relook that graphics card, as you will be able to get something better for about the same price if you shop around.

Try websites like Wootware and RebelTech for some price comparisons as well.

Minecraft can scale incredibly well, from mobile phones to a Raspberry Pi as well as a PC's and consoles.

Might save a bit of money at first and just use Intel HD Graphics, specifically with the newer Skylake Core i3's (6100 etc, since the graphics run via the CPU as opposed to a dedicated card). It's powerful enough to play some modern titles so it will be more than adequate for Minecraft.

Thanks Ryan. Second hand parts is good. I thought of getting him to build a computer but when looking at parts it seemed more expensive, or I am not sure what I am looking for. I am his mother. His dad does not understand anything of computers. I am a bit more literate, but I have never built one.

I was just looking at gumtree and bid or buy for second ones.
We do not have a big budget, so is it really cheaper to build one (not talking about the best gaming PC)

Thanks. I will need to research this.

Thank you. Is it really cheaper to build a not so expensive PC than to buy one?

Never heard of carbonite forums before. Trying to register but they ask who owns carbonite forums. I tried Prophecy and it does not accept it. Does anyone know the answer.
Thank you

Processor R2000
Motherboard R1500
Memory R923
HardDrive R800
Power Supply R700
Case R519

Keyboard and mouse R170
R6610

Optional for later perhaps Don't spend less than 2k on a gpu its just most of the times not worth it.
GPU R1950
I have a GPU that was realeased in 2012 and its still going strong. Spend R2100 on it.
I got a 23' screen from Cash crusaders for R1300 So let your son go see if they have any screens and see what they are priced.
Also where are you located?
